Starting today, the Yellow Pages Association has set up a one-stop shop, Opt Out of Yellow Pages, White Pages & Phone Books Delivery, National Yellow Pages Opt Out Site, where people can log on and opt out.

Since launching at midnight, the site has slowed to a crawl, apparently due to a surge of web traffic from interested consumers. "It's the solution that the marketplace has been asking for," said Neg Norton, president of the Yellow Pages Association. "It's a great win for consumers. It's a great win for our industry. It's a win for the environmentalists."

So you don't have to lug the things from your front door to the nearest trash receptacle.

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

But I use mine. Always have. There are plenty of companies that aren't online, especially small local companies, which I like to do business with.

People will be opting out & not getting Yellow Page books ... that means they'll be using the Internet to find businesses for products & services.

This reinforces the need for high ranking Google Places listings & websites ... services many Warriors offer.

Many of the largest companies still advertise in the Yellow Pages, and it is effective in some markets. Telling clients to "jump ship" will not brand you as much of a professional.

Right, some are still using the Yellows. BUT what percentage of what market?

It still comes back to market match.

If 83% of the market is searching online then there's the leverage.

If only 12% then show the company how to make the ad better.

Offline or online isn't the question. It's understanding the market and how to best serve clients.

    It ain't rocket surgery.
