Newbie here with a question...Say that I was following this general strategy well. How would your hypothetical "2 month" period differ for say...

1. A market like NYC where I was trying to get to #1 in SERP
2. A market like a mid-sized municipality of say, population 150,000.

For whatever hypothetical product we are trying to get to #1 on. {Pizza stores, Legal Services, Dry Cleaners would be a good one I think}.

Very very curious on this.

Am I reading correctly that you don't want to have your own site at all? Like no landing page or anything? Does this mean that you don't want to pay to buy a domain name?

If that's the case, you can always set up a free page on a web 2.0 site like HubPages, Squidoo, Blogger, Weebly, Tumblr, Posterous, SoulCast......and so on.

Get rid of the mentality that you do not want to have a site because if you ever really want to make money online you will need a site. Plus a domain costs you very little and hosting is super cheap each month so why would you not want a site?

Once you have a site write a review on the product or have someone do this for you for a fee. Then, rewrite the review or have someone do this for you and submit it to article directories linking back to your site.

This is quick and easy and super cheap. Plus it is also very basic, but it can be expanded on for sure.

Well this is pretty much getting started off on the wrong foot...You don't HAVE to have your own site, but if you are serious about building a business (and you should be if you are wanting to make any kind of money online) then you are going to really need your own website.

You don't have to use PPC with your own site if you don't want to. That is one of many traffic generation methods.

First you need to figure out HOW you want to make your money. Are you going to be an affiliate for other products? Do you want to create your own products?(If you do, then you are going to have to have your own site - at the least a sales page). Do you want to do CPA?

So figure that out first. Then find your market. I assume since you landed here you are interested in the Make Money Online market. You need to find out want people want in whatever market you decide on and supply it. This is where you need to start. Now obviously there is much more to this but this should get you thinking.

As the others suggested, it's better if you have a piece of real estate (even a free blog if necessary) that you control. But if you need to link directly to an affiliate offer, use a redirect or simply link to the offer in places where it's allowed to do so.

  If I were you OP, I would start from square one and go to the bookstore and read up on how to start a business. Get the basics....learn how to formulate your goal on what you want to achieve, how to make a business plan, what resources are available to market your business, do market research, find a product or service to rep, or create one yourself.

Nobody got lost. From reading what the OP posted, what he wants to do won't really help him at all. I think people here see that are are trying to help and give ideas to get him on the right track.

Just driving traffic to someones sales page that he's an affiliate for won't really help him in his business.

I want to drive traffic to clickbank product but I do not want to spend money on adwords or any PPC program. I am experimenting. I want to find out how to drive traffic to a offer in which I do not control content(hint: static page...I have to use the keywords on it) and I can't really link to it to drive traffic right? EzineArticles "does not allow" you to add affiliate links in the resource box. So again....what would you do? I can build a website if I need too but my question is how do you drive traffic with it.

First off, you don't have to use any adwords or PPC. Why don't you want to control the content? Being in control of the content will help your conversions where as if you aren't in control, your conversions could really suck.

Yes you can link to a CB sales page for instance, but if you are going to do that and you want to make money, you better make sure the sales copy on the vendors page is good, and you know it converts.

That's why I said you should have your own site so that if the sales page is sub-par, you could pre sell them amongst other things...good luck!

It can be done with results that suck. I think if you are serious about making money on the internet, you need to have your own website. Being in control of what you are sending your prospective customers to and being able to pre-sell them is important.

Build your site, make new conten ,conten conten traffic will come

Every time you go to forum add you signature link you will get traffic if that you want
but
100 targeting traffic is much better then ton of traffic

My thought is with a domain, hosting and a 301 redirect at a minimum. A blog, if I have to get hosting anyway, could also be viewed as a minimum. The blog will better for Bumming and testing. Anyone doing something else?

I still don't understand what is meant by a static page where you have no control of the content.. and if you're marketing affiliate products - there should still be plenty of other content you create to bring visitors to your information. You can put links to other information sites about your offer in a resource box.

A static page is a page where the content doesn't change. A landing page you do not own and its content doesn't change is a static page. Moreover its a sales page that you do not own. Your the affiliate.

Its against the TOS of ezinearticles to do what your suggesting. I would have to build(or have built) a site.

First, your mentality is wrong when you say you don't want to have a site. here is why - Let's say you drive 1000 people to your affiliate's landing page and 50 of them purchase the product. You make a commission from those 50 people.....then what?

You don't have the email details of the 50 people who bought your affiliate's products and worse still you don't have the details of the 950 who came to look around.

Even if you don't spend a single cent in driving traffic, I am sure your time is worth something. Why not set up a website and capture the data and in the future sell them again and again and again?

There are so many ways that you can drive free traffic. Social Media would have to be the best way. Facebook fan pages, Twitter account, Youtube account. You just have to make sure you look like you know what you are talking about. You need to be able to provide quality information to look credible. You could also use craigslist to help get traffic. Forums could be another good source. There are endless opportunities to create high targeted traffic. Just don't give up and you will see results

My quick free traffic top 3 would be:
1) High PR article directories (ArticlesBase / eZinearticles / GoArticles )
2) Relvant forum postings
3) Twitter, make sure you have a lot of relevant followers. This will take more time but it's been quite succesful to me.
