Harrassed on YouTube and Twitter

A friend of mine is being harassed on YouTube and Twitter. Someone came up with the idea that he's scamming people (he's not), and created bad videos about him, which his followers have then mirrored. Then they went over to Twitter and started up over there.

In you experience, is there any way to turn this situation around and make it a positive?

Thanks much.

Check if it is possible to notify Youtube and Twitter about it.

      Hey Larry,

I agree that if it has gotten out of hand and is not to be ignored then reporting it to the sites and asking them to remove the offending material is a good idea.

The worst thing would be to respond to their tweets and site and turn it into something bigger.

If you act as if you don't mind it they are less likely to enjoy themselves and may stop their activity on their own.

      Good luck with that.

Thank you both for your suggestions. Actually, the person did notify YouTube, which agreed that it was a copyright infringement and shut down the video. This just made all his subscribers extremely angry, and they mirrored the video all over the place, plus tweeted like mad. Rather ignorant, considering the fact that the guy violated copyright laws.

Unfortunately there will always be people trying to ruin your business.
I think as long as your friend keeps putting out good and trustworthy content his followers should see through the bad stuff.

Hmmm looks like somebody's in the wrong here, and no idea to know who.

Why would someone go to these lengths? It's either they were actually screwed over by your friend, or you friend's product just wasn't all it was cracked up to be and somebody is way over-reacting about it, or that harrasser is just a leech and parasitic person who wants to blame the whole world and not him or herself.

Actually the person is not a customer, he's on some kind of mission to teach people his slant on things and are using my friend as an example.

  • I love these thread! 99% of the time there is more truth to the story that "innocently" gets left out. Like maybe the product is really ****ty....

Anyway, if you know the person who is doing it, there of course is the option of getting an attorney involved and seeing if their is any legal recourse you can take. Sometimes, not always a simple C&D or letter threatening a lawsuit is all that it takes to stop it. That of course is if there is malice involved, there is a lot of leway in the law to protect people that what to voice their honest opinion. Of course like anything that opinion and protection comes at a price. A lot of people will generally asume not to spend money hiring a lawyer or appearing in court to protect their right to free speech.

The other thing your "friend" or you (wink) can do would be to create more promotional FLUFF and get it ranked to push down any of these videos your adversary created.

Is the person making the videos and posts an actual customer of your "friend"? Or are they saying these things without having purchased anything?

    Leverage it...
