How can I get re-indexed?

My site has been at or near the top position for many keywords in my niche for several years. Then like an idiot I accidentally uploaded a new index page with "noindex, nofollow" tags last week.

Only a steep fall in sales tipped me off that something was wrong and yesterday I corrected it. Everyone told me "don't worry", just do some linking and it will come right back.

So yesterday I and several helpers did massive linking of the whole site including a new sitemap... and today more than 24 hours later my site is still nowhere to be found.

I know it usually takes Google only a few minutes to index new urls at the major bookmarking sites.

So what's going on? Am I being too impatient? Is there anything else I can do?

As long as it comes back I'll be okay, but since I'm losing money every day that it's out I need to recover as quickly as possible!

Thanks for any suggestions!

    Sorry for your lost.
Unfortunately, sometimes it takes weeks and even month. Rand Fishkin from SEOMoz is talking about these things pretty often. If you are playing with noindex'es and even canonical's, you better don't.
Did you try to re-submit your site within your Google Webmaster Tools?
Don't want to scarify you, but it could really take months. I personally know cases when site owners had to transfer all the content to the new domain with all due SEO work from scratch, and to put on the old site 301 redirect to the new site.

  • Did you check your site with the Site:yourdomain tag? And are you 100% sure you aren't indexed again. Also, bear in mind that just because your site is re-indexed it doesn't mean your sites rankings will go back to where they were previously.

I have seen people do exactly what you have done and have had clients do the same, for god only knows what reason. But it allways differs oh how long it takes them to get reindexed. Sometimes its almost immediately other times it takes a bit, and it also differs on where they eventually return in the rankings.
