can squidoo hurt you?

I just started a site in a domain that is not very competitive. If I write an article on squidoo that is basically one of my blog posts with a link back to it, how do I make sure that my squidoo article doesnt get above me in the serps? thanks

Does it matter? If your Squidoo lens is high in the ranks, that means more traffic to it, which in turn means more traffic to your website from the lens.

Yes, if you link to it properly. It's entirely possible that someone could find the Squidoo lens, and never click through to your site. In fact, they could just close out the lens all together. Don't think that if someone visits your lens that they will automatically visit your website.

Also, Squidoo has natural pre-established search engine authority that will probably cause your lenses to outrank your site anyway. Target different keywords for your lens, as opposed to your website...shouldn't have that issue if you do that.

It just seems like an odd thing to be concerned about, to me. Isn't the answer simply to build more links to your site? E.g. create more Squidoo lenses that link to your site, therefore increasing the site's rank?

Or another way is to make the lens better so that people ARE more likely to click through to your site, e.g. having a prominant link high up in the lens.

I just think if you worry about something like this, it'll really hold you back. How will you ever do anything, if you're too scared of what the result might be?

I think the only way is through. The way forward is to find ways to make your site better, not to simply avoid using Squidoo just because Squidoo might outrank it. After all, if you don't create that Squidoo lens, then the chances are someone else will at some point anyway, if it's a profitable niche.

Squidoo is a PR 7/8 site. If you don't use it as part of your backlinking strategy, you're really missing out on some serious link juice.
