I need advice. What do you think??

Hello, everyone!

A while ago, I wrote a few novellas about four different women...
I let some of my friends/colleagues/co-workers read it. Everyone
liked the stories. Now I would like to sell them online (hey, why not??).
Do you think it's a good idea? I know a lot of people (young women in particular) would love them.

What I would like to do is this - I would like to post the first paragraph
of every story..If a visitor is interested in reading the whole story, they will have to make a purchase. So, how do I go about doing it? Any suggestions??

Thanks!!

I would say publish it for Kindle.

Then yes, create a blog and promote your teasers - and maybe go into more detail about your characters.

A perfect solution, well maybe becasue it is the first thing I thought of as well.

But the OP's original scenario of publishing the first bit of the story and then linking to the Kindle version is a really good one. It is possible that you might need to publish more than the first paragraph. But that is something you can test to see what converts the best.

      Cool idea.

Here is a link to amazon where you can self publish your books.

      Amazon.com : Self-Publish with Us

or just go to amazon.com and check the link near the bottom of the page that says
      self publish with us.

This might give you some information that you could use. Good Luck.

        Wow...
        You, guys, are amazing!
Thank you for your thoughts, ideas and suggestions.
The minute I posted the question, a few good responses
followed. Talk about the power of the internet!

Never heard about the Kindle...Time to find out!
Once I have read an inspirational book for creative
writers, written by Julia Cameron. She says that most
people are afraid to write because they think they are
not good enough or will never get published. The pain
of rejection can be unbearable Then she says that if
you have something to say, there will ALWAYS be someone
willing to listen, and there is a reader for every story.
        Interesting thought...

        Anyway, here is my plan:
Over the weekend I will review and edit all my stories.
Then I will follow your suggestions, one step at a time...
Will see where it's gonna take me.

BTW, you can build a fan base online, and they might demand
more stories or novellas, which will keep you busy for
years to come. I mean...if you are really committed to writing.
Again, thank you for your input, guys

    Angela,
I think that's a great idea you have there...

That's essentially the process that Amazon uses with there Kindle books now...download the first chapter to see if you like it and then it's really hard sometimes not to hit the order button.

I'd start with Kindle as well and see how it goes...then move to Amazon CreateSpace or any one of the other P.O.D. publishing companies.

Great job on getting the book written...and hope you sell a million!

    Best,
    Jack Duncan

I had a similar idea. I recently decided to write a book, but I wanted to create some buzz prior to publication on Kindle and Create Space. My plan was to publish excerpts to the article directories with links back to a blog I created.
I'll also post each excerpt on the blog, and have an email opt-in for people who want email updates. Then I hope to have a list of customers waiting for the book's publication. I also plan to build a facebook fan page for the book with the same posts.
I've posted one excerpt at zendiving.org. The blog's new and I haven't polished it up yet, but the funny thing is I already have a couple of comments. (OK one of them's from my sister).
By the time I finish the book I should have some buzz going. If it's any good, that is.
I hope this is helpful, and would really like to hear of your progress. Please keep us updated. I'll be rooting for you.

wow that's a really good idea!

Imagine how many articles/essays/book reviews we had to write in school back in the day! Not to mention research papers which are more scientific!

If only I could dig those up and offer them for sale.... hehe

      Thanks for the idea Angela!

You are very welcome! I am good at giving great ideas to people.
And of course, as I pointed out before, when you have something
to say, there will always be someone willing to listen.
I think you will always find readers for your essays, stories, novellas, etc...
Let's face it. Very few people get published. Why sit on your arse
waiting for an opportunity of a lifetime, when you can create your
        own opportunities. Right?
