Is Anyone Using Disqus for Their Blog Comments?

I'm still learning about disqus.com, having only found it last night, but it looks like a really nice system to integrate into my blog commenting. It basically takes your comments and creates a thread that shows up on the homepage at Disqus.

Anyone had any experience with it? I think what attracts me about it is having my comment thread appear on the first page of their PR8 website!

I think, but I am not sure, that this is a sytem where you have to be a member of Disqus in order to leave a comment, I might be wrong about that.

If that is true, that might keep people from commenting on your post if they have to sign up for another site.

It's not a requirement, though it does make leaving a comment easier.

I hate blogs that use Disqus. Not because of the nofollow as others mentioned, but because it is a royal pain to use. It seems to slow down page loading. Sometimes I have to reload a page several times before the comments even show up. There's an extra step in leaving a comment.

Also, I am not sure, but I think that the comments are not stored on your own site but on Disqus, so if you ever stop using Disqus, bye bye comments. Again, I'm not entirely sure on that, but I thought that was one of the negatives I had heard about it. So, definitely look into that before installing on your own blog.

From the end-user perspective, that is from the perspective of the person reading a blog and leaving a comment, I see no advantage to it. And, because I have found it a pain to deal with, I am less likely to read and comment on blogs using it.

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

I'm trying to find a "Kajabi" like commenting system plugin for Wordpress.org. I need something that will enable my members to have a central dashboard within my membership site where they can see all the questions/comments they have made on the site and comments/replies others have made. Does this exist yet?

I was just looking at Disqus but read that it will require my members to register outside of my site and I don't want that.

        Thanks

I use DISQUS on all of my blogs. I love it because it allows people to login to comment as a Guest, with Twitter, Facebook, Yahoo, and OpenID.

To see it in action check out my Facebook Tips blog.

DISQUS also allows commenters to share their comments with Facebook and/or Twitter.

The main drawback to DISQUS that I see is that it does not support CommentLuv, which is an awesome way to encourage people to comment.

          I highly recommend DISQUS!

Okay cool. I have a few questions about Disqus...

            1) Does Disqus require users to register with Disqus or can they do that from within my site?

            2) Does Disqus install a central dashboard that is part of my membership site where my members can see all the comments and questions they have ever left on my site and will it update itself when others reply or comment to their comments/questions?

            3) Does Disqus slow down page loading?

            4) If I stop using Disqus will all the comments on my site go away?

            Thanks
            Steve

I don't have direct experience with it, on my blogs, but people I interact with use it and speak highly of it!

I was thinking about it too. Still debating!

Now I don't use it. Because most of comments are nofollow.

Yes, I've used it, and really, I'm not seeing any added benefit from it.

I put the code on one of my blogs this morning to see what happens. My main concern is more javascript to load. If you're still using it maybe we can test it for each other and post results. I'll go to your blog and post comment, check page load etc. and vise versa
