How Do You Sell Leads To Elder Care Facilities?

I have site up which is a free resource for people seeking long term care places like nursing homes, assisted living facilities, homecare etc.

So far, the results have been dismal.
Direct mail marketing: Out of 50 mailings only 2 people have responded.
Email: 200+ people, very little response.
Cold Calling: 50+ appointments. No signed clients.

I've talked to dozens of assisted living facilities and I do know that people pay these types of leads, but more on a placement basis. Assisted living companies rely on referral companies that send leads their way, and when a resident moves in, the referral company is paid 50% of the first month's rent ~$2,500.

The problem is when most people hear "cost per lead" the conversation immediately comes to a dead end. The problem may also be that we have been approaching the wrong assisted living facilities. I suspect that the larger facilities will have more to spend and I will have better luck with them.

What is a good strategy to market our cost-per-lead program? Direct mail? Calling them directly? online marketing?

First off - you should be proud of yourself! A 4% response rate from DM is almost unheard of. Well done!

That's VERY interesting to me. I did not know that. I will be looking into this myself in more detail

Plus, as I imagine, these places will look nicer, and therefore to the average person will be more appealing. If you're recommending an absolute dump, it doesn't matter how many "leads" you're generating; almost all of them will be turned off instantly.

Who were the 50 people that they mailed to? ...How was it determined that those specific 50 people should be contacted?

...and why were they only contacted once?

Here is something interesting to get your thoughts rolling.

You can acquire a list of older aged people in a given town.

Take that list and place it into Intellius.com ($20 a month)the people finder. In most cases a persons name will be accompanied by names of relatives.

Those relatives are going to be the people who have to deal with finding ol' Mom and Dad a care facility.

Often old folks will need to go into a care facility to recover from a complex surgery (hip replacement) or illness, which is temporary.

Contact those older people directly, from the perpsective and tone of Being Prepared if such a need arises. Win them over so that they will want to go there. Give them mechanisms/methods to indicate beforehand that is their wish.

Just some things that entered my mind as I read your post. Hopefully helpfull.

  • I don't like being told how to live, but I need some help. To what extent can I retain my autonomy in an assisted living environment?
