Good ways to build backlinks to articles?

I do a lot of article writing/submission to directories (namely EZA). Whenever I have a "good" article, I will help it out by building a few backlinks to it.

I generally do this two ways:

1. Make a comment in a related blog and link back to the article.
2. Make a post in a related forum and link to the article in my signature.

And it does help. The additional links seem to help the article raise quicker and higher in the search engine results. Oh, and it tends to maintain its standing for much longer.

My question is:

What are some other ways to effectively build backlinks to articles?

Thanks in advance. I'm not looking for theory. I have rad tons of theory. I'm talking about what people are actually doing currently to build backlinks.

Thanks.

    Here's just a couple:

    - Build a Squidoo lens and point a link towards your article.
    - RSS submissions.

(Outsource these things if you have the cash)

Submit your article to other article directories and link back to your EZA article in your resource box.

Submitting your EZA RSS feed to some of the RSS directories has worked well for me in the past.

EZA RSS feeds? I never even knew that was possible.

Is the feed easily available? Is it on the "Publisher" page? Nevermind, I'll go check there.

Once you have the RSS feed, which directories do you recommend submitting it to?

Derek mentioned building a Squidoo lens. I use Squidoo too and Hubpages.com and I also get back links from my Tweets from twitter.com
