promoting in Australia

Hi, I have asked this elsewhere, I was looking at an offer to promote to the australian market, but when I went to godaddy they dont have .au, is there a reason for this, or would.com,net,org suffice anyway, also when I look on google/au, the domains end .com.au, can you buy these or is it just something google does in Australia, Regards, Mick.

        You can buy a com.au, you may have to get it through an Australian domain registrar. I just did a search on google for 'buy com.au domain' and there's heaps there (could be because I'm in Australia)

    To purchase a .au domain you must be an Australian citizen, unless you have a trademark on the specific domain name, and they can only be purchased from an Australian registrar.

    Otherwise, you can install Google analytics and tell Google you want your website to appear specifically for the Australian rankings.

      It is a good idea to get a com.au domain as you would find it easier to rank on Google then other domain extensions.

      Chris, thanks for that, so im in the UK so my best bet is to buy a .com,net and then inform google analytics that im promoting in Australia, Mick.

    You will need an ABN (australian business name number) to buy .com.au's and probably all aussie domains.

    Unless they have changed the rules, but it's always been like that.

    So don't think you can.

      So Ernie, do .coms.nets do just as well as .com.au or do they have the advantage over .coms, do google favour .au in Australia, Mick.
