I have an idea, has anyone tried this?

Hello, I have been following this forum for a while and have gained some great tips from it. This is my first post however, and I have an idea.

I am thinking about starting up a wordpress blog that has a very broad focus, like a health blog. I will invite anybody who wants to join as an editor and the idea is that we can all post to the blog, with whatever method of monetization we want within each post (adsense, affiliate links, etc.). Each blog post then would essentially take the place of a mini-site. So instead of building a mini-site around some weight loss supplement product, you could write a blog post about it, monetize it, and link to that post. I would also say, for every link you get to your individual post, you must also link to the top level domain.

I believe the advantage to a site like this is three-fold. First, every time someone gets backlinks to their post, the site as a whole gains strength. Second, the frequent posting keeps the blog content fresh, and we all know Google loves fresh content. Finally, instead of starting from square one every time you want to market a new product, you are posting to an established blog that already has age and credibility to it.

Has anyone ever tried this? Do you think it would be a good idea? Let me know if you would like to join me in this endeavor!

Personally I don't think the click through rate on the advertising on individual posts would make them viable as individual "mini sites", especially as once they are off the top of the blog page they are going to be largely unseen by anyone entering the page.

    Just my $0.02

Lot's of people have tried it. Few have been able to make it profitable.

Just because many have failed does not mean that you will.

If you study them, you might could find the angle to finally make it work.

Quick question why would i take time to post to someone else's site when i could post to my own?

Just playing devils advocate there , there are technical problems with multiple adsesne accounts althought there are plugins that rotate adsense account. the bad news is it's been tried before and always failed as the time to take care of the spam you get far outweighs the benefits

The idea is that the blog itself would not target any keywords, but each post would. So each post would have its own stream of traffic from Google and the main page would barely see any traffic at all.

Because even though I would set up the site, it would be maintained by everyone. I guess you could think of it more as an article directory, but one that allows advertising and affiliate links.

I am relatively new to IM so if you guys don't think it will work, I'll take your word for it and probably head in another direction, it was just a thought that I had.

        Don't immediately be put off!

You have an idea and a strong belief that it will work - have a go and make it the best site you can.

Yes, take advice from here, but I don't think other were necessarily telling you not to do it
