I've been using GoDaddy for more than two years. Only recently have I started using NameCheap for my newer domain purchases. With NameCheap having such a great sense of humor, I'm liking them more every minute.

Trouble is NameCheap has rubbish support so I'll stick with GoDaddy.

This is awesome. Now I can transfer some 99 cents domains for namecheap.

GoDaddy annoys me a LOT when it comes to renewal of WHOIS privacy. They totally rip you off. That's why I transferred to NameCheap.com. Actually, what I do to save more at each step is this: Register at Godaddy when they have a $0.99 special. Then, whenever I see a coupon for transfer from NameCheap, I transfer there. Finally, when time's up at NameCheap, I take advantage of Name.com's reduced rate for transfers

Any idea how much we are going to save. My domain at the moment is 9.69. I have two domains there. Just for fun I just went to namecheap and hoped they would start i today. I know, i know, you said it starts sunday. But I'm just curious how much it will save us? I have been with GD for many years, not getting anywhere with my real estate website. But with everybodys help, I might be able to start moving it up though the rankings once I understand all the IM tacttics.

I have never had any issues with GD but will have to have a look at namecheap. I do agree that godaddys upsell process when trying to buy a domain is a real pain in the a**.

Namecheap rocks, and they DO have a coupon for new domain purchases - just used one yesterday: NCSMILES

No prob with Godaddy here, I use them too but NEVER send anyone to them as GD tries to sell them all kinds of useless crap too.

did anyone successfully transferr domain from godaddy to namecheap? I tried many times, godaddy always says failed, which makes me think maybe it is their trick to stop the transfer?

I've always liked Namecheap. Never really liked Godaddy. I had an account with them when I was a noob, and I just plain didn't like it. I used MidPhase before that.

I would love to know if Godaddy is stopping transfers. Most people would just accept the failure and stick with Godaddy when they should contact support to get it transferred.

That's one of the reasons I use namecheap. They WAY more user friendly than godaddy, and they're cheaper in the long run. And now this.

godaddy is a total rip of compared to the service they provide (they charge like $8.99 for privacy per year for example which lot of other registers do at no additional cost). their support is terrible and they lack big time in client satisfaction. they are more focused on superbowl sponsorship and putting women with big boobs in the limelight. i moved my hosting away from them and moved all my domains away except a few. rest will be transfered over before they are up for renewal

Too bad this didn't come just a few weeks earlier, when I transferred the last of my domains at GoDaddy to them.

Well, I did submit a ticket asking what the promotion code included;
I just updated the ticket to ask if that included the regular 1 year extention.

But, they don't list ".us", as their support quoted to me in email.

Well, I'll find out. Either way they're cheaper than GD's $19.99 .

Imagine this: You have a very successful web site that is making you hundreds of thousands of dollars.

One day, as you are working late into the night, you get an email from your domain name registrar saying (paraphrasing) "Congratulations, yourdomain.com has been successfully transferred out of Namecheap".

Would your heart stop? Mine did - almost!

Yup, the registrar was NameCheap.

One of my primary money-earning domains that I had registered through them got "mysteriously" transferred from my account to someone with not even a name or address in the whois listing - and just a junk email id.

I contacted them within 5 minutes of being notified that my flagship domain name had gotten "transferred" to this unknown person.

Guess what? They don't have phone support!

They have only ticket-based support.

And it took them days to even acknowledge my ticket, while I was practically having a heart-attack every hour!

And the best they could come back with is (paraphrasing): "Sorry, it seems that the domain was legitimately transferred from someone who logged in to your account. Nothing we can do about it".

They got hacked - and they didn't even have the decency to admit it.

Forget admitting it - they wouldn't even hear what I had to say.

I had only like 2 or 3 domains registered with NameCheap. And only one of them was doing big business. And guess what? That's the only one that got "transferred" :-)

And this was a domain that was actually "locked" so that no one could transfer it, not even myself - without "unlocking" it first.

Long story short: Countless sleepless nights, endless emailing back and forth with their "parent" registrar (NC gets their domain from another wholesaler actually) and many excruciatingly painful months later, after spending about $3500 in legal fees in filing a complaint with ICANN and all sorts of insane legal hassles, and hundreds of hours of lost work and sleep and extreme stress, we were able to get the domain - and our business - back.

NameCheap completely screwed me over.

I was extremely lucky to get my domain back (thank God!), otherwise, I would've lost almost everything I've worked for, for so many years.

If I were you, I would stay very, very, very far away from NameCheap.

I think this is called insolence or ethnic indifference. Anyway godaddy is number one in the world when it comes thinking at domains.
