Pins and Needles: Creating A Coaching Program

My stomach is in knots and my hands are twitching because it's that day again...

LAUNCH DAY!!!

I recently setup (did all the product creation/coding and copy work myself), promoted and launched my first ever coaching program. I would say there is a 50% chance that it will flop over and die in the first month, but I have faith in my audience and the initial wave of coaches I've asked to join.

I'd like to go over a high level look at how to create a coaching program as well as what is required to make it work. Maybe over time I will be able to come back and proclaim with certainty that my method was a total success ... or failure

What You Need to Provide Coaches

1. A place to setup their "About" page. This is what prospects will see when looking for a new coach. I did some coding in php, if you know what you're doing it takes 10 minutes. If you don't, get someone who does!

2. Instructional materials on how to coach successfully as well as canned emails and anything else you can include to add value to the program. Audio files, pdfs, videos, etc are all good ways to achieve this. Part of the instructional materials must include setting up however the coaches will get paid (ie clickbank, paypal, etc). For my program I have coaches refer other coaches with clickbank and get paid by prospects with paypal.

3. A place for coaches to congregate together and talk to one another. This is one of the biggest things you can do to promote coaches helping one another and will save you quite a bit of work. I would suggest a forum.

What You Need to Provide Prospects

1. A place to find coaches and contact them. Again I did some php coding and creating a search page for finding coaches.

2. A place to provide feedback on coaches. This gets tricky, and I preferred not to implement this feature but instead promote social proof through things like twitter and facebook for coaches.

Promote Promote Promote

Tell the coaches to promote to their audiences, promote to your own audience, convince new people to become coaches, etc etc etc. This may seem self explanatory, but what is not is the fact that you need to keep doing this for a very long time, not just in the beginning of the program. Do everything you can to increase the influx of customers and coaches until your program has gone viral.

Finally, Protect Yourself

Add policies to your program to protect yourself from bad interactions between coaches and prospects. Be sure to state that all transactions and activities between these two parties are not part of your jurisdication. Give prospects instructions on how to proceed should they not be satisfied with a coach, but make sure you don't tell them to come to you. Tell them about paypal's policy's, instruct them to contact the coach, etc.

I hope this got you thinking about what is required to start your own coaching program! I know I have not covered everything (not even close), so feel free to add to the tutorial with your own tips on any aspect of creating and managing a coaching program.

You're very welcome PaulMark! So far the coaching program is still in the buzz stage so it probably will be some time before I can add to this post, but when I do I'll add as much as I can to help out anyone else interested in starting a coaching program.
