Help?? - traffic strategy

Hi,

We own a furniture business in Toronto. I'm just trying to figure out where to start with my strategy to get more traffic to our site.

My first question is, did I make a mistake with naming my company. I tried to go for something that sounds nice, and we picked anne-quinn We're getting about 50 unique visitors a day through Craigslist, Kijiji, email marketing campaigns, and referrals (about half through referrals)

I just checked on Google's keyword tool and the keywords "furniture store in toronto" get 22k in traffic every month. I checked and got the domain furniturestoreintoronto

Should I change the domain name of my site?

Thanks, Brian

      • Brian,

Be very careful when you do keyword research, if you get that wrong all the following seo you do could be multiple times harder than if you did keyword research properly from the start. When you search stuff with Google's keyword tool, always use "exact match".

I just had a look and suddenly instead of 22k searches only 320 searches/month show up for "furniture store in toronto". However, "furniture stores toronto" still gets a healthy 9.9k. "furniture toronto" still comes with about 5.4k searches a month.

Anyway, I'd also recommend to stick with your brand name. For small niches it isn't important and while you certainly would achieve easier rankings with an exact match domain, you definitely want to go with your brand since you have a furniture business in toronto.

If you need any decent seo done, send me a pm.

You are dealing in Local Business so try to promote your site locally. I will not suggest you using exact keyword domain as it has only 320 (exact keyword searches) per month. Offering discounts for online order (agreed with above statement) will increase direct traffic to your site.

There are a number of things you can do. My family owns a retail furniture store that has been in business for almost 50 years.

One thing I would do is try to collect the names and email addresses of everyone you can who walks through the door. Create a newsletter and direct people to your website whenever you have a sale or you have other news to announce. You want them to think of you when they think of furniture.

  • I don't think names are as important as what you sell, and your marketing of the products. Generate traffic and the sales will come....
