Any other RAP Members having problems with the server down?

Apparently rapidactionprofits.com is down...which means trying to log in to your own hosted installation of the software will lead to a problem loading the Admin area (since its fed information from the RAP server)

Anyone else experiencing this? Will orders still be processed? Ugh...

I thought the whole point of self-hosted solutions was so the "main server" being down wouldnt be a problem.

    Dexx,

The only thing you lose is the dashboard. You can still select your product, make changes, do everything you need to do, but it does throw you off to not see the dashboard when you log in. Everything else does work.

    Thanks,

    John

I get a 500 Internal Server Error when I try to login to my admin.

John, how can you get in?

I didn't know (and that maybe my fault, not checking out the details) the RAP script was that heavily relying on its "home" website.

If that's the case, I am disappointed... how do I know what data it transmits when "calling home"?

(my RAP admin panel doesn't work either...)

RAP does not transmit any of your data back home. The only call back is to the dashboard page and that is used only to make sure every RAP customer has the most up to date information about RAP updates and new plugins.

I compete with RAP so I have nothing to gain here, I just wouldn't want something simple like this to hurt anyones reputation and I have been through RAPs code very carefully so I do know what the dashboard call does and does not do.

As John says, the only thing I am "missing" at the moment is the Dashboard (the links to updates, latest news etc . .) which, to me, is not a problem.

The Admin Panel - that one line of navigation with the normal drop-downs - is still there and fully operational. There is certainly no downside to any of my sites running on RAP.

I would suspect that the only benefit of "calling home" is to get the latest info from Sid about RAP and associated products. I certainly would not suspect anything untoward.

    Just my 2 cents

Wow, mine's down too - I never realized that the dashboard was relying on an outside server. Not a big deal, as long as it's only the dashboard. I doubt very much that Sid would be using this for any other purpose.

OK, the rest of the admin (except dashboard) seem to work... although it's so slow I thought it stopped working.

Well, I am skeptical, so I always expect the worst in any situation. Nothing personal toward Sid - it's my default setting based on historical experiences

Somewhat bad publicity, however. Wonder when someone from RAP will get on here to reassure people? It's the first place I'd get onto, w FB and Twitter right behind.....

There is absolutely no reason why your Product can't come out - the Admin Panel and ALL functions on your own site is still available.

The only thing, at the moment, that is not visible is the "Dashboard" which really only contains RAP update info and info on Add-ons etc.

Ken - it takes my Admin panel longer to load than normal (because of the call to RAP) - but they do load after a time.

When you say you can't get in - is there an error message - or something?

I got emails from 2 customers saying their purchase wasn't delivered so I'm not sure if it's just the dashboard.

That wouldn't have anything to do with the dashboard. On the page that loads the admin area there is a single call to the dashboard page. It calls a single page on Sids RAP site which has information about the most recent versions of RAP as well as the certified add ons available.

The code is a simple call to load a page inside your admin panel, it doesn't do anything other than that one thing and has no effect on anything that happens outside of the admin area so there is no way it would have any effect on purchases.

Wonder if it has anything to do with how SLOWWWWWW the whole admin area is...?

Something is definitely affecting the admin area other than just the main call to the home page...every action I take is taking 20-30 seconds to perform.

That's what I thought myself, I had a look in the code and found the 2 CURL calls to rapidactionprofits.com that are causing the issue. I tested my sales funnel as welll and it seemed ok but i just wasn't 100% sure.

It must just be coincidence then that these 2 emailed saying they didn't get the product

The 'dash board' page may make things in admin load a bit slow (server issue), but everything else will work with the script.

The dashboard is strictly for getting info about RAP from Sid, nothing else. It can, as some users have done, be edited out. Wouldn't advise it.

I talked to Sid earlier this week and he was getting ready to go out of town. I sent him a message about the problem and reference this thread. Hopefully he will get caught up with things ASAP.

If I can do anything to help, let me know.

    Thanks,

    John

John, would this be causing our problem where we cannot get the admin panel to work v 3.1.10

      - instead we get [MySQL server has gone away] then the

error report of rap_admin/library/my_sql.php line 69

I've updated our php.ini to allow for a longer connection time, didn't work.
I've rebooted (gracefully) our server and again that hasn't worked.
Any clues as to what esle I could try.

      Thanks.

    As John said, above...

I've been out of town, but I am back.

The RAP site went down yesterday afternoon, but it should only affect your Admin Dashboard. You get that page (or just the header/footer right now), immediately after login, to update you on new patches, etc.

My guess is that the overall slowness that you are experiencing is also due to the fact that your admin panel hasn't successfully communicated with the RAP site, so I'll be digging into that to try to eliminate the slowness after login.

Your sales pages, etc. (the customer-facing bits) should NOT be impacted, and you should still be seeing sales come in.

P.S. BELIEVE ME... This is impacting me too, so it will be fixed as quickly as possible!

Sid, any way you can add a check in Curl to verify the dashboard page is actually online and if your site is down for any reason display a holder page instead? This would stop the problem with slow loading and errors on admin login if the RAP site happens to be down.

That's certainly an option that will be looked at, Johnny.

Thx, BTW, for your quick vote of confidence when this came up. I was aware of the down site almost as soon as it became an issue, but didn't know there was a discussion here until John Skyped me.

Thx to John, too - for letting me know!

Does anyone have a fix for this yet?

Ipn's are not being sent. Customers are not receiving their download links.

The dashboard / admin panel whilst being slow, is now no longer showing sales to admin.

The addon- membership plugin is behaving like it has never been installed, let alone having over 300 active members in it.

      Any pointers would be appreciated.

    Janet,

It looks like the main RAP site is back up, so hopefully things will get back to normal. I am sure Sid will be taking measures to alleviate the dashboard problem when/if his server were to go down again.

At the same time, from the chats and emails I follow along with, it seems this situation with datawebpro has caught a lot of people, big and small. A real mess and it has a lot of people scrambling. Hopefully they will get things sorted soon.

    Thanks,

Is there any way the RAP Programmers can develope this script to NOT relay on the RAPserver?,

so that it relies 100% on the purchasers hosted space, so if the RAP server goes down like this, then it wont affect your dashboard.

Can you rap developers make a future upgrade like that ?

I started getting fraud emails from my sites yesterday.. followed
by emails from customers telling they couldn't download..so I was thinking
    something was up.

Went to check my admins but couldn't log in... was actually getting
"mysql server not found" errors so I thought it may have been my hosting.

then I realized Sid's site was down so I thought there may have been a connection..

anyway, glad to hear we've pinpointed the problem and Sid's onto it.

Does the email all customers rely on anything from Sid's server? I needed to email all my clients and don't know if it worked or not.

Folks, this is a relatively minor issue.

      1. Only thing affected is the login process and overall slowness of navigation.

      2. Sales are coming through with no problem.

Sid's a top notch pro who has been there for me whenever I needed him. I
have NO doubt that this will be cleared up soon.

I'm just glad it's RAP and not my ISP or hosting company because I was
starting to think there were problems elsewhere.

Well, this has been a learning curve!

I've informed my clients that their sites are back up and working again.

My Clients are not best pleased, ( and that's putting it mildly! )

And whilst I have tried to explain it's a hosting problem on someone elses server, they cannot understand how someone elses hosting problems impact upon their site. (and I have to admit, I can't either, I thought this was a stand alone script)

However, I've had to be on hand - standby for the last 48 hours monitoring what's going on. Being asked assualted with questions hourly like:
    "Can we get in yet?"
    "Is it working yet?"
"How long before it's going to be sorted?"

    Customer service eh!

So I empathise with Sid, I know how tired you are.

Thank you for fixing things, but PLEASE get rid of the call back function, so if this happens again, it doesn't impact on other peoples sites and stop any plugins from working correctly.
