New domain... Big potential??

So... I'm thinking about starting an SEO news and tips website. It will be very robust and contain a ton of information. seonewsandtips.com will be the domain name. I did some research and it seems like I have potential to get pretty decent traffic, right when I launch.

Now to monetize, what I plan on doing, is also having a banner ad to two of my other sites, one advertising search engine friendly web design, another advertising SEO services, which I'm sure I will get overflow to both of those sites. I also plan on using adsense, and doing some affiliate mrketing.

I'm also thinking about allow users to sell ebooks through the site, kind of like WSO's, which obviously a certain small percentage goes to the site.

So what do you guys think? Do you think there is big potential there? SEO is a topic that isn't going away any time soon. I think the traffic will be there, and I believe that it will also help other businesses I have. I'm interested in hearing suggestions though!

I think the competition for this kind of stuff is stiff, there are many sites out there that already do this. But really, you will not know how successful you will be until you try.

Wilsonm is right, be prepared for strong competition. Think about who your competition is... other people who think they know SEO better than everyone else.

Sounds like a decent plan, but please be aware that it's going to take some hard work and time before it gains traction and gets off the ground.

Don't expect instant popularity and traffic, but if you provide solid and valuable content, I think you can definitely expect referrals and word of mouth to get you increased traffic traffic over time. Having a solid marketing/advertising plan would also greatly help in popularizing your site - do NOT make that classic mistake of believing that you can just "build it and they will come".

I think most of it has been said. There will be stiff competition, but "you gotta be in it to win it", or even take a share of it.

I think I would limit the amount of time I put in, just in case you are fishing in too sparsely populated a pond. After all, those searching for "hints and tips" may not be buyers ( - quite the reverse! If they were searching for services, they'd have looked for "SEO services"). Test and measure along the way to prevent yourself building a wonderful site that just does not pay.

Well, I don't think that I will have problems getting traffic. I never have had issues getting traffic. You say that they may not all be buyers, but thats life. I have visitors to my site that aren't buyers, and I don't care. It is a numbers game. I am not expecting to sell much there at first, if at all. I plan on providing more information (FREE) than almost every other comparable site out there. I will have ads, and do a bit of affiliate marketing. They can look for SEO services, I don't care, this won't be a service just an authority site. However, I am going to triangularly link to my SEO company and Web Design company and count on those being the money makers through this site.

Well, you guys are right, there is high competition but there is also high reward. While people are doing this... people are doing it on a smaller level than I intend to do. I envision this to be the CNN of search engines, SEO, and internet marketing.

I think it will take some time, and I expect it to take at least a year before I get results I want, but I think it will be well worth it and I don't believe that the demand is ever going to go away!

Instant traffic is a nono, the only way that would happen would be through adwords.

I expect to have to spend A LOT of time on this. The development stage will be the easiest. I intend on having hundreds of pages of unique content.

Yes, that's nice monetization tricks. Also include reviews of SEO Softwares, services etc and monetize that with affiliate links. Make sure you collect the email ids of all of your visitors. ( sidebar optin, after post optin, pop over..etc) Yes, definitely going to be doing that. The emails alone are going to be worth the trouble in this site. I believe I can generate a 100,000 member list within the first year.

Yes, potential is big if you plan to make it an authority site which includes useful information, detailed reviews, daily news and some guest posts. Best of Luck!
Thank you again, I believe it has pretty big potential. I don't think it is going to be easy by any means. It will take a lot of work and will be hard to juggle everything I have on my plate currently. I would like to launch the site, with 150-200 pages of unique content. THAT IS JUST TO LAUNCH! Then I plan on having addition news, blogs, reviews, etc every day. Every single day!
I have it planned, in phases.

Phase one: Development of the site, will probably take about a month or so, maybe longer.

Phase two: content content and more content

Phase three: Launch the site, promote, market

Phase four: Once I hit a certain amount of traffic, will be adding a forum.

Phase five: User Registration, allow users to sell their own products through the site.

If you are an expert in the field of SEO then go for it. Its hard to make an authority site for a single type of niche these days and if you will succeed then you have made a difference.

If I were you, I would do it and have team and go to each conference with a camera, microphone and of course have company t shirts and interview the key note speakers, other company owners and get yourself out there.

I would do a seo news and tips site and have the center of the whole site be on videos so that you stand out, of course have articles bc we all like to read to a certain degree, but have something that keeps you different and stands out.

I hope you have lots of writers who can write or shoot video.

Most of the seo sites have video and I love reading their stories, but let's do podcasts, audio, videos about the tactics. of course the interviews in videos.
