The best way to make a website for a business??

Okay so I'm new to IM but i'm interested in building mini sites for certain niches and plan on working on that very soon.
But my brother has a Flyscreens and Security Doors business at the moment and i heard him saying that he wanted to pay someone to build him a website and get his business in the search engines. Now because this is something i'd be interested in doing soon both in the online and offline world for businesses in my local area i thought what a great way to practice here by building a website for my brothers business and getting him on google.

Now my question to you my fellow Warriors is where do you think i can start?? Would it be easier for me to use Wordpress for the site or something else?? I've been lurking and reading in the forum for a while, so i'm familiar with most IM terms but if you have any suggestions please let me know. Any links will also be a big help. Thanks

Steve

Just for starters, i would just go with wordpress. It's easy to use, especially for non-techie types. Perhaps pay a freelancer a little money to create a custom theme; otherwise, choose one of the great free themes out there.

Have your brother blog 3 times a week and He will start to get some traffic over 2-3 months.

hi steve, i've had good luck with local websites for wordpress with the small business theme. it's pretty expesnive for an unlimited licnse but it's good for creating professional looking sites for businesses, and the seo settings are outstanding.

Wordpress is definitely the easiest. Pick a theme you like, and if you have the money, get an unlimited license. It is a bit expensive, but definitely worth it in the long run. If you don't have the money, buy a single license theme which will get you going.

I love Wordpress because it offers so many plugins and is so easy to use that it will save you so much time. Especially as you get used to it and know which plugins you like, it becomes a breeze to set up.

Some plugins that you will definitely want to add:

    All in One SEO Pack
    - helps with title tags, meta tags, etc. Saves a bunch of time and gets very good results.

    Official Statcounter Plugin
    - Allows you to keep track of how much traffic you are getting and where it is coming from.

Dean's FCK Editor For Wordpress - Unless you are a techie, this plugin makes it easier to manipulate posts and pages. It gives you an interface that is similar to a word processor like Microsoft Word and allows you to do more formatting than the regular Wordpress editor allows.

Robots Meta - Allows you to pick which pages you want to be indexed and which pages you do not.

Widget Logic - Allows you to set which pages and posts you want widgets to show up on. If you want to offer a special offer on a certain page, this makes it a snap

And besides just making the site, make sure to do your keyword research first (I use market samurai (non affiliate link) and love it. They offer a great video training course which will help you immeasurably.

    Good luck!

I run an offline business and use WordPress for the site (a few sites actually). It works perfectly. I blog weekly. My sites get decent traffic and convert well. Just get a great looking business theme and your brother's site will be up and running in no time.

I have built a couple of sites for local businesses using wordpress and they have worked very well. They pay their teenage children their pocketmoney for doing regular posts.

Make sure to use the Google local business listing as well. it is astonishing just how much business that alone can generate.

An exhaust centre I worked with gets at least a dozen customers a week from his. Trick is to use the keyword as the name so it pops up every search.

If I were just starting out, I would just go with wordpress. You can usually find a free theme that will meet your site's needs. And wordpress can be installed pretty easily from fantastico.

I'd personally advise you to use wordpress by adding a theme matching your niche, besides you may open a shop in yourdomain.com/shop and install a shopping cart to facilitate online sales
