Well, something is up as in wrong because that is how it's done.

Perhaps some more information is in order? Is this a static html site, blog or
something else like php? Are you working with a subdomain or some free type
        of hosted site?

Ah... I had, and still have, a similar problem with one particular blog. It seems
the blog is totally confused because it does not seem to know, or understand,
        what a home page is.

I think it is the theme I'm using. I have specified the home page in the settings
which is something you need to do. But in my case, it does not seem to matter.

I have enlisted the opinions of other people including letting them go in and look,
and it is all to no avail. So I do not worry about it. lol

But, for you... I don't recall the path off the top of my head, but you can set what
your home page is supposed to be. That normally is all you need to do.

Warrior "Istvan Horvath" is a bit of a Word Press expert and has written a post about how to turn any HTML page into a Word Press page.

How do I use my HTML salespage in my WordPress? - Get this no optin Guide!

You should find it if you do a search in the forum.

I hear it's not too difficult so if you follow the instructions and change your blog setting to point at that new page you should be set

EDIT: Please Do Not Do This. See My Next Post Below...

Is the squeeze page a wordpress page or just a static html page you have uploaded? If it's just a static html page then you will need to get rid of the index.php page that wordpress has put on your domain. The best thing to do is to just rename index.php to something like index2.php so you still have the file there if you want it back. Then just upload your squeeze page and name it as index.html and it should show up.

Just FYI: if you do this, your WordPress will stop working...

I just went and tried this with a current blog and you are correct, it stopped my pages and posts from working. I am actually doing exactly what this OP wants to do. All I did was upload index.html file into the same root as the wordpress index.php file and my static squeeze page is showing up fine.

All the host servers have a setting in which order to show (look for) index files. The most common "rule" is:
      index.html
      index.php
      index.htm
      etc.

The point being that if an index.html file exists that will be shown by default. If there isn't, the server will llok for the next one... the next one...
Of course, you can configure the order with your .htaccess file, too.

Usually, it is NOT healthy to have 2 index files in the same directory. There are scripts (and earlier versions of WP were among them, for sure!) that refer to a directory index file not by 'extension' but simple as INDEX - in which case the server will not know whether to show the index.html or the index.php file.
