Article Writing - Most often suggested service, but least understood...
Writing is a skill, writing for internet content is a niche within that skill.
Writing isn't something that everyone is suited for.
Everyone suggests that you get started by writing articles, but few give you any advice on how to go about that. I ranted about this in a thread I can't even find now, but the truth is, writing is not the best way to start in internet marketing.
The starting pay sucks. If you go to the "bid" sites like elance and guru and all those others where you get sent, you've got people wanting 500 words for a dollar. It's just ludricous what is expected. Someone did a rant about it, which I also can't find right now, but who would be willing to write a crapload of articles for $1/500 words? Not me!
Writing is an essential skill that needs to be developed if you're going to have any success with IM and can't afford PPC advertising. That squeeze page with it's thin content is never going to rank if you don't buy clicks.
Until you add relevant content to your site, whether written by you or someone else, you can forget traffic unless you buy it.
I recently took on an offline challenge to write for my "brick and mortars" and found it quite challenging to find writers that could meet the need, but I digress.
Writing for others is a business, just like anything else. If you can write like everyone suggests you do, you still have to let someone know. The old adage "if you build it they will come" is total BS. Even writing means you must promote and sell.
Article writing is an "in-demand" skill, but the intricacies of marketing are still there. The effort involved in promoting your skills can make all the difference between an $ .80/C word marketer and a $ .10/word career.
