Hello fellow warriors

I am building a website for my father, he is a self employeed electrician in the UK, the only exact match (company name) domain names left are .net .info .co .org and .biz

My question is which is the best to go for? it doesnt need to be high ranking in google as its mainly for exsisting clients and people who take his business card.

Many Thanks as usual

Marko

As far as I know, TLD doesn't play a big role. But I suggest you get a .net or .org if it is still available.

Your call, my friend. My first choice would almost certainly be the .net.

I've never noticed a lot of difference between com, net, org or info, having said that if it's for existing clients and you'll send them the URL it doesn't really matter either way.

    As Mike said -your call.

It won't really matter which TLD you use, but if it's for a business the only one I'd really try to stay away from is the .info.

I'd have a slight preference for the .net, so if it is available I'd spring for that, but it's really not that big of a deal if you can't get it.

I don't believe it. Wasn't a few other extensions the new deal a few years ago? Like .mobi? And now I never hear about .mobi

Go for the .net if it's available. It's always my second choice over a .com. There's not a lot of difference because it's what you do with it rather than the extension in most cases, but I go for .com first, then .net, .org, .co.

ltd.uk would be one choice but as you said he is self employed then it is not that appropriate maybe. From The options you mentioned I would say .biz as it is supposed to stand for business so therefore it would be most appropriate. If your mind is really set for .co.uk then maybe you can play around with your keywords to come up with something close to your original choice.

If he's in the UK and his business/service is ONLY in the UK, you HAVE to go with a .uk domain. Otherwise the local population will not take you seriously.

Get creative with the company name. Exact match isn't important at all.

If his company name is DaveTheElectrician and DaveTheElectrician.co.uk is taken, you could use:

    Dave-The-Electrician.co.uk
    Dave-TheElectrician.co.ik
    DaveTheElectricianSite.co.uk
    DaveTheElectricians.co.uk
    etc.

.net is my preference after .com. Electron Plumber had a good point with having a .co.uk extension, but I don't think it's completely necessary.
