Is there a real danger with single opt-in?

I live in the US (New York)...am I at a real risk for using Get Response single opt-in? What's the worst that could happen?

Hey Scott, didn't know you're a New Yorker. I'm here on Long Island not far from Filsaime's office.

I've been using single opt-in for some lists and double for others for years. I honestly don't see a difference other than less lost subscribers from the single opt-in list.

Of course the autoresponder companies would rather you have double opt-in because it makes their lives easier in terms of deliverability issues.

Yes, the real danger is that you will get many more confirmed subscribers

I've also used single opt for years with an autoresponder script that installs on my server. Even though many of my lists are in the make money niche I've never had a spam complaint.

      Knock on wood :-)

    I've wondered the same thing.

I don't think that it's that big of
a deal... It's not like the internet
police are going to bust through
    your screen and handcuff you.

I have tons of very small email lists
that I've created over the past 8
months - mainly for testing purposes.

One half consists of double optin
    leads... the other half single.

I haven't received any negative feedback
    whatsoever.

    Peace

Single opt-in list with an option to remove will be ok.

Some competitor of yours could use your form to enter a bunch of names that never asked for your info, creating major spam headaches for you.

It's a real black hat tatic called 'joe jobbing', and it can cost you dearly.

As long as you provide contact info and a way to unsubscribe, you are good to go.

I use both single and double opt in. Single for customers through the payment processing script and double for forms. Never had any issues with either.

    Thanks,

    John

I've been using a single opt-in script for my start-up blogs hosted on my own server and have had more testimonials than opt-outs.

I think it depends on your niche...I would probably use aweber or getresponse if I were in IM niche.

Single for customer signups and double-opt for "free" lists.

To prevent the kind of BH crap that Floyd had mentioned, which IS a problem.

Too many spam complaints and the AR company will axe you.

Lots of big time mailers run single optin lists.

Even the ones on a free model.
    Most of mine are single.
