You can start with nothing and still make money, it is not necessary to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on resources and courses in order to get started in IM. They may make your job easier, but this is not a requirement in order to succeed.

that depends on so many factors. It's hard to answer. To give a very basic answer, I guess I'd say that if you work smart, you can speed things up by automating a part of your business (meaning investing in tools that help you do some tasks or even outsource) as opposed to not investing in anything and having to do everything yourself which can take longer.

But then again, it's pretty subjective and there are many counter examples you know. And the risk is to make bad investments and not analyzing the results carefully enough.

Still, what you have to keep in mind is that you have to treat it as a business if you want it to work. Well that's what I think.

    Here's your answer.

Go to Namecheap and see how much it costs.

Go to Hostgator and see how much it costs.

Go to AWeber and see how much it costs.

Add the 3 together and you have your answer.

I don't know any other business in the world where THAT'S your overhead and you have potential to make thousands of dollars or more.

Ya, the risk of starting is minimal. As the previous poster says, you only need a domain name, a web host and an autoresponder, which might set you back $20-$25 a month. If you go for a FREE autoresponder like ListWire, then you can cut down on your expenses to less than $10 a month.

IM is probably requires the least startup costs of any business I know. However, I recommend a solid designer for your sites, and keep money on hand for advertising, seo efforts and content writing.

There isn't another business in the world that you can start up for this very low cost.
But before you get started, before you dash off around the net trying each new "thing", make yourself a promise... not to do that!
Decide on what niche you're going to operate in. Is it the job you already have, or the hobby you've been enjoying for years? Make it something you're good at and enjoy.
Then go research it to make sure there's a good market out there.
Give it your total focus until it's up, running and you're able to direct traffic to your new site/blog.
Then market the heck out of it until you have success.
And as one internet marketer told me years ago... "don't give up. You can't fail if you don't give up".
    Good luck.

You need to change your way of thinking. When you are learning how to make money online, other than your basic domain and hosting, the only thing you should be spending is your time.

You should first pick a way that you want to make money, i.e. selling services, a product, affiliate marketing, drop shipping, etc. Then, you should learn as much as you can about that way. You can learn through forums and simple Google searches.

As you take action and start seeing some success, then you can reinvest what you are earning into tools that will create shortcuts for your work.

Don't look for shortcuts until you understand how to do things the long way. These tools will not help you unless you have an understanding of what they are intended to help with.

In comparison to other business start-up costs this is cheap.

Your time and effort will be your biggest cost.

Be prepared to put in a lot of time...

    You can start with $0.

One of the most effective ways to start off in the IM game is forum marketing. Share your expertise with people here, and on other forums. You'll not only establish yourself as knowledgeable (if you're making quality posts) but you'll also build a following, so you could create your own product, or promote an affiliate product on a free website, and people might just be inclined to buy it.

I started with absolutely nothing. I'm not saying that I don't make investments now, but in the beginning, I made a lot of start up capital before I ever spent a dime.

Make money by creating Squidoo lenses without spending anything. You must create many of them in order to make good money, but here is a lens that teaches you how to create many lenses in a short period of time:

    http://www.squidoo.com/passive-income-website-traffic-squidoo-beginners-guide

Remember that free platforms are not yours entirely. They are your partners. Follow Squidoo’s rules and you won’t have any problems.

Read many posts in this forum everyday, and you’ll learn many different marketing strategies that will help you very much.

Before creating your own website, finding a niche, looking for products, etc, be a very good student. Read many posts in the Warrior forum, create many lenses and participate of the conversations in the Squidu forum, where you’ll have the chance to promote your lenses, and learn many traffic secrets.

Don’t spend anything before learning how to prepare a serious business plan for your business, otherwise you’ll only spend your money without knowing what you are doing.

There's no set answer to this. It depends on a lot of personal factors. One advice would be to research and do a lot of thinking first before buying anything. Any purchases you should do should be part of your overall plan.

Yes there are lots of free ways to begin.

The less money you have to start, the longer it will take, but if you do things right, then free can get you there!

The whole key is to stay patient, nothing is going to happen over night. It takes lots of time and patience!

It really depends on your current level
    of understands to IM.

If you already know how to promote a
    product successfully.

Then all that you need to invest
    should be $100 - $1000.

$100 if you write your own sales copy.
$1000 if you hire a professional copywriter.

So you spend the $10 - $20 bucks registering
a domain (or domains), $10 on hosting.

$20 on an ebook cover, or $40 - 60 depending
on how many covers you need.

$20 for an auto-responder account to capture
    leads.

Assuming you create your own product yourself,
and write your own sales copy. You should have
no problem getting started and make real money
running your own Internet Business for less than
    $100 dollars.

If I were you I'd focus on the free tools available and not invest anything until I started to see a cashflow. SEO is free and well worth learning. A domain name is $10 and hosting is less than that monthly... That & some elbow grease, and you've got everything you need.

Unless you are young enough to still live at home with your parents, one of the biggest factors is living expenses - and this swamps the amount you actually spend to build an online business.
If you still have a full time job that pays the bills then you could slowly build an online business for less than $100 or more quickly paying for training and automation tools - but that is tough if you have a family in need of attention as well.
Part time offline working that pays the bills but gives you enough time to start an online business is probably the least stressful way to go

As can be seen from all the posts, start-up costs can be minimal, and the most important thing is to get some training in how to get the results you want (marketing training).

If you're looking for budget numbers beyond that, I suggest that you start with the product you will be selling. Based on the potential profit from sales at the ratios you expect to convert (always use the LOW-end estimate for this) you can then see if it's worthwhile to spend on marketing, design, etc.

If you have a marketing budget and the knowledge to use it you will increase your chances for speedy success.

There's no set correlation between monetary investment and reward in IM.

Personally, I have only invested in <100 websites & hosting for them in the past couple of years. As such, my profit level is bordering on 99%.

People with different marketing ideas may need more money to pull them off, it depends entirely on the plan.
