Need Warrior Feedback

Hey everyone,

I wanted to get some Warrior feedback on an idea I had for my friend.

Well, here's the story:

My friends are having a baby, yea I know WOOOOO but really it's a money sucking machine!!

The thing is that her job has been recently slicing her hours like crazy, I mean from 40 hours a week to this week being about 10. I know HUGE cut. And with the new addition about 5 months away this is NOT what she or her significant other needs.

Well I've spoken to them about things online to do and it really just doesn't peak their interests at all. Not even a little bit.

BUT she is a very talented artist, so I suggested she provide her services for art. My initial thought was to have her market her talent as maybe an ebook cover creator or even web logo designer.

Now since she doesn't have any technical skills I figured she could take orders, draw them up by hand and then scan them onto her computer and send them to the customers.

Personally I think having completely original hand drawn images for whatever you want could be AMAZING and the potential is great.

But what I really want to know form you guys is

A: Is this something that would sell enough for her to make some substantial income from? Or would it be like $10 here and there?

B:Are there people out there that would even care about original hand drawn images?

C: What would be a feesable price she could charge?

I would like to know if this is something worth getting her into before I push it. So far I've mentioned it and I saw her eyes light up so I wanted to dig a little deeper and find out what could really happen with a service like this.

Any and all comments, advice and ideas are more than welcome.
And thank you all in advance, and I'm positive she thanks you as well.

Take care everyone

I'm pretty sure that answer was discouraging, but it probably showed you a bit about the landscape that she would be competing in. Ten bucks here and there, as you put it, is double what she would get if she were to go the Fiverr route.

My advice is to share the knowledge that you have and make recommendations based on what you know will make them money. If they continue to show no interest in your ideas, then continue living your life and let them worry about how they will pay for their diapers.

The internet is pretty saturated with people who make eBooks, typically for around $2. Check out one of any free lance type of websites out there and you will see hundreds of people needing the graphics, and thousands of people there to do it. A lot of these people fulfilling this need come from countries where $2 is important.

Speaking of which, I happen to need a few eBook covers. PM me if interested, in exchange for some work done with a short turnaround I'll give you a good review if you post a thread bout it?

When you are trying to make money you need to think 3 things. Appeal, Exclusivity and Credibility.

From what you say and if she has a portfolio, no doubt you can have high credibility, just scan or photograph the work.

Appeal and Exclusivity are going to be deal breakers for you. There are thousands of artists on the net and I honestly don't think there is that much Appeal (demand) for that kind of thing. I'm sure there are exceptions.

She can earn a good living as an artist on Devianart.com

My daughter has been drawing there for a number of years and sells her art there. PM me if you need more info.

yes i apologize if my answer was discouraging but it can work.

another thing i can think of is when those people draw you in person and the person just sits still and the artist will draw them in a funny way or something.
they have a lot of that stuff in vegas but i do not know what job that is called

again, sorry if it is discouraging, but it can probably make you some money

I'm not worried about me making money. I have my own paths I am walking and doing just fine. I'm looking to help her out and since I know the net has a wide variety of ways to make money and considering she won't be leaving the house much soon I thought it would be good to show them the potential.

Nothing is discouraging because when you're making $50 a week even $10 more will help. Just looking to see how I can help them out. I got help when I was in the dumps and now I'm doing great so I'd like to do the same for others

This is a wonderful idea! As an art lover, I've been a member on the Devianart.com forum for some time and I endorse this suggestion. I also suggest your friend sets up a blog with her scanned pictures as a kind of online portfolio. We all know that a website/blog is the most important online "business card" for any self-respecting professional.

      Good Luck!
