Default Blog v Website for Review Site

Hi guys,

Sorry if this has been asked before but I知 going to start a site in a particular niche that will give reviews, free tips and sell affiliate products.

Do you think it痴 best to do this on a blog, where I値l post a new article or review every few days or is it best to build a website for this purpose?

Any input is very much appreciated.

I would forget about the website and just concentrate on a blog. Blogs can rank very high pretty quickly. One of my favorite IM's is Jeff Johnson. I recommend taking a look at one of his review sites. PM if you want it.

He monetizes by using Amazon and adsense.

So......
1. Buy domain
2. Buy hosting
3. Upload Wordpress
4. Monetize it (which is the way you are going to make money from it)

There's more to this but its a solid start IMO. Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for that!

Yes can you please PM one of Jeff's blogs so I can take a look.

Can I ask why is it better to buy a domain and hosting when I can get a blog for free?

I would go with a blog, they can and do rank better than websites and at much faster rates, they have thousands of free and cool themes that are all over the net and last but not least, you have access to thousands of great plugins that make your blog even more exciting and productive. Register a domain name , get a webhosting account that has cpanel and install wordpress and you are good to go!!!

because you blog is very likely to get banned for promoting affiliate products. it happens with blogger every day. rarely with wp though. you don't want to lose all your reviews, articles and backlinks one day do you?
hosting your own wp blog is a much safer bet

Ok, so if I buy hosting, I can just upload the blog to my hosting and then it becomes my site, so I can put anything I want on it?

Is it no longer connected with wordpress then?

If your blog is on a free service, you have no control over it. If they change the TOS, sell, or whatever, you're up a creek. You want to build a business for long term profitability, and you need your own domain as an asset you fully control. If your exit strategy includes selling, you can sell it in the future.
