Is there a SPAM blacklist?

I was just doing some perfectly legitimate backlinking on a blog and upon submission I got the following message:

"Your location has been identified as a spam network and your comment has been blocked!"

So I changed my location to the U.S. (same location as the blog) with a proxy and got the same thing.

The only thing that could have sprung the warning was my url.

Is there any way to check this out?

I've been having some unexplained problems with Google listings recently and so I'm looking into any and all irregularities.

Thanks, Mark. According to that page I'm clean. I thought it was most likely to be a glitch but you have to check these things.

By the way, you're in my part of the woods. I spend the "warm" months in the U.K. and winter in Spain... Estepona!

That's a good reply, Michael. I am absolutely NOT a spammer, no matter how you define the word. In fact, I don't use email marketing at all.

But you never know when competitor might be trying to spoil things. I do have a couple creepy ones.

My IP address is dynamic, but I have had earlier incidents with having emails blocked due to the server I was on.

OK Dave, , NP but you have to ask, right?

Anyway, did you have multiple links in the body of the comment, I don't mean the form field where you're allowed to enter a URL.

Many webmasters flag more than one URL in the comment body as spam, then add you to their own list as a spammer, and if they have an Akismet account, you might get on that list and this would be VERY bad indeed!

Short answer to post title: YES.

Do as Mark (above) suggests, but the IP you're using, or the proxy sever may have an IP ban or your website or your email address might be on the list.

Was it a WP site with Akismet, or an EDU site with its own programming?

Have you commented on the website before? Did you have more than 2 hyper-links in the comment body?

Maybe it is just a default response which should say "awaiting moderation" and someone messed up the screen in the CP...

There are a lot of variables, but the base question is "Are you, in fact, a spammer?", and the word "spammer" has many different meanings to different people...
