Default Wordpress Critical Update

I just got to know about Wordpress 3.0.5 update.

It seems there were to moderate security issues being fixed.

The problems I faced was I have no less than 30 wordpress websites. To manually update and backup those websites was certainly a pain in my behind.

I wonder if any of you have better solutions or methods to mass update and backup your wordpress websites?

Thanks in advance.

I have over 150...I share your pain or should I say multiply it 5 fold....

But it has to be done...Take it as an opportunity to update plugins and themes as needed as well as cleaning up any spam...

Have fun

Yeah I have about 20 as well but it always feels good to go through and get everything updated and cleaned up like TPF mentioned.

There's a free Auto Update plug in you can use. Find it in the search plugins section.

Good points! I have 5 wordpress sites, but I would love to have 150 wow! How much revenue do you bring in per month from those sites?

I don't think there is a solution for updating in mass, i think i am lucky cause i have only 9 blogs . It took me only 15 minutes to update them all

Your best bet is to write a really simple script that you can run automatically via SSH to do wordpress updates.

That way, you can simply run 1 program, hit enter, and BAM, all your wordpress sites are updated. That is what I do. Super easy.

What do you have to update exactly before doing the WordPress update? Doesn't using a Child Theme keep your changes intact when you update WordPress?

I didn't update to the latest version because i don't know exactly what it will mess up.

I just back up my files then I update. It is just the hassle of remembering all your wordpress urls and ids, logging in then making the updates.

In almost an hour and I am done for all my websites.

Just wondering if there are ways I can make things easier.

I really can't imagine myself updating 150 websites that would be a killer.

Fortunately the rest of my websites are either html or xsitepro websites.

Is that just a precaution in case the update messes something up? Does the update usually not cause any problems i.e. lose any of your site data.

Also, which folders do you need to backup. Do you need to back wp-admin, wp-content, etc..

Isn't it?

If your sites are all on the same IP address, it makes more sense to run one install of Wordpress using WP Multi Site and the Multi Network plugin.

aHA! Luckily MY ftp was ravaged by a virus and I lost 50 odd sites recently. I've only gotten around to restoring 5 - so minimal effort for updates on my end .

Find the silver lining in everything and life's good no?

I just made a script which automatically updates all your wordpress sites using Fantastico in your hostgator account.

Send me a PM if you're interested in trying it out.

This seems like a perfect job for an outsource company in the Philippines. I am sure they could handle it, and be glad for the work.
