Prob - Submit Same Post On Article Directories as on Hubpages!

I seem to be running into this particular problem these days.

What I do is write an article, submit it to article directories and Hubpages, at the same time!

Some of them are published on Hubpages, but some show duplicate status as "substantial portion of this content appears on other pages".

WTH?!

Do you run into this problem? Or, you ever faced and now solved it with some clever submission strategy?

Enlighten me!

I was under the impression that Hubpages required unique content, they do allow duplicated content (as in syndicated from other sites) on their site, but don't allow promotional links within it, so you could always use those hubs to link to your other unique hubs. Try Squidoo, they don't seem to have the same issue.

Note this is the prompt, even after I delete all the links in the hub:

NOTE: A substantial portion of the content on this hub appears on other pages

Is it that Hubpages want a hub to be indexed first for it to be unique?

Hubpages wants unique content. I have received this message so many times. I have started using hubpages less because of their nofollow thing (although I am working to make my hubs dofollow). Only solution is to spin the article for hubpages.

Maybe it has to do with the content being almost the same as on other hubs.

And this is their opinion about duplicate content (how contradictory!):

Your Hub's content has been detected on another site and has incurred a HubScore penalty as a result. Only you can see the alert message at the top of your Hub.

You are allowed to post content on HubPages that is also published elsewhere, like your own site or blog—but you may not place any promotional links on that Hub. That being said, a pattern of publishing duplicate content will negatively affect your HubScore, as we prefer to reward authors who publish content unique to HubPages. Please note that it does not matter whether or not you are the original author of this content.

Your Hub may also be moderated for duplicate content in cases where we determine there is substantial similarity to another work. This includes close paraphrasing, among other forms of misappropriation or copying of content.

If your Hub is truly unique to HubPages, you can request a review of the Hub by contacting us. An exception is typically granted only when quoting is done to a minimum, or some commonly-used, public domain, or historical phrases have triggered the duplicate content detector. If your Hub has been certified as original by an administrator, a notification signifying so will appear at the top of the Hub. Once certified as original, no HubScore penalty will be applied.

If you want to use any links in a hub, the info on the hub must be unique. That means you rewrite and change articles published elsewhere.

You can argue that it's contradictory - but it's the way Hubpages has viewed content since its inception. Hubs wants content posted on their pages to be content not posted elsewhere.

I think it makes sense - Hubpages is not interested in providing an article directory or a clone of your sites and this is how they prevent that. I think of Hubpages as an "editorial" arm of promoting a site.

Then the only thing a hub is good for, is TRAFFIC!

Which you can probably get by working on your own blog then. What's the use of a hub then?

I use my hubs to sell products on Amazon and I generate Adsense revenue through them.

So it is possible to make money with HubPages without linking out to your money site. You just have to figure out how to make it work for you without going against their guidelines.

Alright, here's the update...so you know...

Hubpages take content that has been published on other sites, but does not allow any external links in that other than to Hubpages itself.

Yup I figured this out too. I think its fair. They are still giving us something even for providing them with duplicate content. Linking to other hubs can be really beneficial.

My understanding is that both Hub and Squidoo will only accept original content if you want to include links.

If I wanted to go down the route of using these with content published elsewhere it would be to get my name known within Hub and Squidoo. Then when people see a posting of mine which has original content and its link it would hopefully encourage them to click on the link.
