Attach My eBook in Thank You Email or Have Download Page on my Site?

I have a new blog with a new email list, my first one actually. And my incentive to sign up is a free ebook I've written and am giving away.

I've seen some marketers attach the ebook in the first email which you receive after signing up for a list, but I've also seen downloads available from a download page located on their website.

I was curious what people thought about pros vs. cons of each and which you all prefer. I was thinking that if you have a page on your site where you include a download link, even if it's not readily visible from anywhere on your site, once one person signs up they can share that link so people can find your ebook without having to opt in.

I don't know, maybe I'm overthinking this. Thoughts?

I wouldn't worry about people ripping off your free ebook. Those fools will do it anyway you go. And if you consider your ebook as an advertisement for more of your goods/services, then let them pass it around. (I'm sure you have already loaded the ebook with all your links.)

I prefer to do it with a download page.
Tip: On the download page try to sell them again on whatever your money making deal is (obviously this is short and sweet, not long sales copy), don't just put up the link to download.

You could also try attaching the ebook to your email and telling them that there is an additional something for them on your site and give them the link for that.

Then you delivered as promised, and added even more value into your proposition.

Having additional links to other things on your downlaod page may work, and it might not. The best thing to do is try having additional links there an d not having them and see what happens.

I usually to everything.. I drop people right to it after clicking the sign up button (I do single opt ins.. people have ADD these days, and often get distracted before remembering to click the confirm email.. then they forget who you are and you lost them.. that's no good), then I attach it to the welcome email and I have a link in that email, too where they can go right to it.
Just trying to make sure I'm all over the place so they really don't have a chance to miss it

I would unsubscribe at once if you attach anything to the "welcome" email. I hate huge PDF files in email attachments and I guess I am not the only one...

What's wrong with a download link?

I send out my welcome email, with a picture of the ebook, a download link below, and a brief into to who I am, and what they can expect in the way of future emails. (That I'll be following up)

    Works for me.

I have mine attached to the e-mail, but I am considering asking my virtual assistant to create a download link page...
