Article MArketers: How Many Words Did You Write Today?

My goal for the last several months has been to write at least one 1200 word (minimum) article per day, Monday through Friday. I do this regardless of whatever else I have going on, and I've noticed a fairly healthy spike in my income because of it. It's also a lot easier for me to write one 1200 word article than it is to write two 600 word articles, even if they're on the same subject.

In addition to writing a 1200 word article every day, a few weeks ago I started writing another ebook. The only hard and fast rule I imposed on myself for the ebook was to at least write something for it every day. Looking back I managed to average about 700 words per day on the ebook, so for that time period I was averaging almost 2000 words per day total.

What about the rest of you? Do you have a set goal everyday?

I wrote exactly 34,459 words today. Minus text messages leaves a total of 5000 words written today. (10 articles)

    Yes ... I can imagine.

I have a very similar aim (in terms of word-count, anyway), which is to write one 900 - 1,300-word article each day, 7 days a week. To be honest, I don't always manage it, but I get pretty close: always 5 days a week, sometimes 6, occasionally 7.

    For me, also.

And in the long run, one 1,200-word article reliably earns me far more than two 600-word ones, even though the latter arrangement produces twice as many initial resource-boxes and backlinks (it took me a long time to learn this! ).

Just under 1,100 as an article. And a lot more in posts here, I suppose, but I don't count those (and fortunately don't have to apply quite the same standard to them, either!).

I actually learned that from one of your posts here on the WF, so thanks again!

Alexa, what would you say the reason is that this works better?

Long tail keywords? More syndication? More rapport with reader?

thats the same thing was wondering? whats the logic behind a 1200 word article out performing a 600 word one?

On 'non-writing' days, I try to write 800-1000 words, or 1-2 short articles. Often, though, I find that once I'm in the groove, I just want to keep going and write more.

        3 - 600-word articles, plus 3 - 300 to 400-word blog posts per day.

What's that? Approx. 3,000 words per day on average. Some days I will do a few more articles.

If I'm working on a project, then that number can go up drastically. And then there are forum posts, which I don't count.

Thanks to all for sharing. This thread is quite an insight into working methods. I don't specialize in article writing, but manage 1-2 articles a week in the 600 word range. Looks like it's time to take that up a notch!

I hadn't been producing so many words until January, when Ezine Articles started one of their "100 articles in 100 days" challenge. It has really put me into the writing mode which I'd been avoiding for far too long. It's hard to imagine how much I would have benefited had I started at this pace 5 years ago or more.

Let's see 4 blog posts of around 400 words, 5 articles of 500 words and a bunch of emails and ramblings so far and the day is far from over. Overall, I average I would say 7500 words give or take a day. My current goal is to get to about 10k words a day between client articles, personal articles and blog posts. But then again I LOVE writing and could do it seriously all day long.

I detest headsets myself, and it's such a chore to put them on, especially when you're in the middle of doing something on the computer. Regarding the Yeti, would you recommend the regular version, or the Yeti Pro?

That happens to me all the time. I started to respond to a post on article marketing on this forum a few days ago, and instead wound up writing a 1000 plus word article on the subject.

Very true ... and an excellent and highly relevant point to make, in this context.

On its own very small scale, as it applies to me, on days when I really don't - for whatever reason - feel like writing an article, I almost always always find that once I've actually started it comes more quickly and easily than expected, and completing, editing and polishing it become a pleasure. The first step really is the hardest, even after all this time.

I'm just wondering how you make yourself take the "first step" on the days you don't feel like it?

When I have days like that, the first step rarely gets taken.

Not just with article writing, but with many other things too.

By leaving something "just about started off and ready for an easy continuation" from the day before ... is one of my tricks. (It makes it easier to make a start than having effectively a "blank sheet of paper". Works for me, anyway. Sometimes!).

I agree Alexa, sometimes the hardest part is just getting started. Once I've gotten to that point though and begin writing, it flows like it should.

If you have trouble getting started writing, just write. Doesn't even have to be related to what you need to be writing about. Even come to the warrior forum and make a few good quality posts, just to get your writing flow started, then close the forum and get to work on what you should actually be doing that day.

Gee, I hope you have better results than I do with that program. In my case, it works fine for a few pages, and then it makes mistakes. I spend more time going back editing and correcting than I do writing, so I put it aside for small articles. Now I use it mostly for longer products, like ebooks.

I normally work to get in 500 words a day average. But my main goal is to make sure I focus more on what to do with it after it's finished. Meaning distribution, getting backlinks to it, pinging it, bookmarking it and placing it where people who is most likely to click on my resource box link.

I find today so many articles are on the market, it's more important now than ever to focus on quality, distribution and creative marketing of aritlces now than ever before. My goal is to outsource my article writing without losing the quality aspect of it, that's not as easy as it sounds, but I continue to persist.

1,000 words of web content AT LEAST per day is my target.

And that's easy - because I LOVE writing!

(It helps when you know each word is worth $X too)

A tip: Work on the syndication of your content as hard as
you do to create it - because it's when your stuff goes viral
that the real magic of content creation kicks in.

That's how 1,200 word articles out-perform more limited size
content (unless, of course, you can write like Seth Godin!)

    All success

Some of us detest writing and get others to do it while there are others who actually enjoy doing it and dont see it as a hassle but as a chance to get our creative juices flowing. As Sylvia stated above, she set out to write a 500 worder and stopped at over 900. Been there, done that.

I aim for 1K a day because I genuinely enjoy doing it, not because it pays the bills. What I dont enjoy is typing in the dark because my beloved is sleeping 5 metres from me.

Undoubtedly, the biggest daily goal of mine should simply be to start putting words together for an article. Once that has happened, I am so much more likely to get the rough draft completed all at once. Much like Alexa said, it seems more of a pleasure to do the writing and refining once I've gotten started.

Simply thinking about the act of writing can be a turn-off, especially if I've been distracted by other issues (especially family, schedule, etc). Once I'm in the mindset of writing and the words start coming (even it they aren't great at first), that gets me past 90% of my objections to write that day.

My goal is a 900-1100 word article, although I currently need to do some email auto-responders (perhaps more urgently than the articles).
