How Do You Get Images?

how do you guys get images for your site? do you perform a google search for them? trying avoid copywritten images

    Being a photographer, I am able to take most myself or use my past photos, as I have tens of thousands. I also use wikimedia commons and just check licensing.

    Paid ones from Stock Photography: Download Free Stock Photos & Royalty Free Images and Fotolia.co.uk - Royalty Free Stock Photos, amongst others.

      I would be careful about using photos that you don't have the rights to. People are getting sued over it.

      You seem to be quite confused about licensing, copyright and related issues.

      OK, I will consider it... I feel like not linking back. We are still fine, aren't we? You asked me to consider, I did and my decision was: hell no, I don't give links to anybody. But you do not require, right?

      If you are going to redistribute this image online, a hyperlink to our site is mandatory.
      I will not redistribute, so I don't have to post a link.
      On the other hand, if it's "public domain" I may find it somewhere else, too, without your restrictions...

      If you intend to use an image you find here for commercial use, please be aware that no model or property release was obtained and pictures featuring products should be used with care.
      Is this from the original copyright owner... or you made it up?

    NEVER just search for an image and use it.

    It can cost thousands - literally. I've personally helped businesses in this situation (at the hand of someone else) and it's not pretty.

    Stock images are the way to go - istockphoto, bigstockphoto, scx.hu, etc. Well worth the small investment.

    FYI - you *rarely* need more than the smallest resolution photo from these sites for web-based work.

    I'll let you use any of the photos I have on my DeviantArt for a buck each. I dunno if they are what you're looking for. I planned on having a lot more but I killed my photoshop computer lol

      Nice work Shadowflux - hey, presuming you are the photographer for all those (and you have model releases if they apply) you could consider doing a WSO or your own stock photo site - just a thought!

        Good selection and if you are just starting out, it will only cost you $12 to buy the minimum 10 credits.

        Over at iStockPhoto you have to buy 12 and it's $18.50....

        Although iStock's selection may be a little better...especially if you're looking for really creative, artsy-fartsy type of stuff.

        Thanks for the kind words. I am actually the photographer for all of them and I generally don't have any people in my photos. The WSO is a good idea and I had considered starting my own stock photo site. I was running a photoshop site that used a lot of my photography but, like I said, I killed my photoshop computer lol

        Its actually really been bugging me, I wonder if I can solve this problem.
