What's the best way, or common practice, to sell an affiliate product

Hey guys, I'm just about to start out on my first clickbank adventure.

I've chosen a product and understand that I need to drive people there. I'm going to set up my own site or squeeze page?

So, what's best practice... come across as I'm reviewing the product and slip in a few links here and there?

or, just make a fancy squeeze page, which links to the product?

My aim is to make a site, rank it high in google... but what the content of the site is... that's what's got me a bit stumped.

I would write 5 or so quality blog posts about related topics and mention the product in passing as something that helped you.... In each post, when you mention the product, the link will go to a very well written review of the product that you've done, and within the review, actually link to the product page with an affiliate link.

That's what I do and it seems to work great

If you are planning on promoting more products and services on the Internet, then it may be better to start your own website or custom blog. Get your own domain and hosting at Host Gator (starting at $3.96 / mo). You can either use their site building tools or activate a word press plugin and start your own blog. Blogs are very user friendly and have many pre-made templates ready for you.

Now for the content and subject part:

It is always best to stick to the main topic of what you are selling. Just like in this forum, admin likes to keep the topic related to Internet Marketing and Making Money Online. So You should stay in this subjective area to get the best results with visitors and customers. However, with that said, Internet Marketing (key word) is a very highly competitive area. Unfortunately it is almost the same deal with the long tailed keywords related to Internet Marketing.

It would be best to use some kind of software like Marketing Samurai and really do your research before getting started. Most people including myself have made big mistakes when initially starting up a new website. You want something with your keyword built in to your domain.

If you are only planning on promoting only one product for now, then I would recommend using high PR ranking websites like this one and ezinearticles.com to write articles to promote your deal. High PR sites pack a lot more punch than a new site and ensures that your article is seen by the vast majority of Internet searchers.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I probably should have been more clear that I'm not a complete noobe.

I have web hosting and a site up, different niche.. I plan to use this to sell an ebook and have amazon links.

For this site, the one I'm on about, it's for one specific clickbank product... it's the first time I've done this.

I have a keyword dense domanin name, and have found some good low competition keywords. I'll write some articles, and create some videos using these keywords.

I like Rory's idea to create a blog that is dedicated to reviews... however, I'm probably going to market random products, so I don't think that would work...

@NateRivers, I like this idea, as it's pretty passive, although, this means they need to click twice to get to the acual product page... would it not be better to just link directly to the product?

You say later in this thread that you already have the domain and just for this specific product then I would list a lot of benifits for the customer Like

Do you have problems with xxxxx then I could have the answer you are looking for

List the benifits how this product is going to help your customer

for more info name email so they go to AR then direct to sales page

something like that could work for you

      Cool, I like these suggestions...

      Yes, I have www.xxxxxxreview.com

I guess making it look like an informative review site is the best way to go, thanks guys.

One thing, I'm not exactly sure about... can I have the same articles on my site and ezinearticles?

I think it should be quite hard to rank squeeze pages, but i'm not sure.

Think a blog would be good. But i'm no expert. Just giving my 2 cents.

If i were to ask you if I Made A Difference, would your answer to that be the same as the answer to this question? <-- THINK!

I've been researching this all day..... seems there's 2 main methods out there

          1. The review is extremely positive, with lots of links to the product page, to the trained eye it's pretty much a sales pitch.

          2. The all out honest approach. The reviewer lets the reader know that there's an affiliate link and that they'll be getting a commission. These are usually blogs with many reviews.

I like the honest approach, but, that's just me... from a business point of view I want to do what works best.

That's fine. Ezine doesn't require unique content.

Just wait until the article is indexed on your site before submitting anywhere else though.

Really? Can I have the same article in multiple article directories?

Yes, most of them accept duplicate content. Just check the Terms of Service. The only big directories I know of that don't accept duplicate content are Buzzle and Suite101. There will be others though so always check first.

I'm still learning the ropes with articles but there is some very good advice on this subject in the forums. Before you know which strategy to use it's important to figure out what your goal is. Do you just want backlinks, or do you want your articles to rate well and bring in traffic of their own to your site. This will determine the strategy you use.

There's a lot of bad information about 'duplicate content' out there. I'd suggest doing a forum search for threads about articles and duplicate content or submitting to multiple sites. Look for posts from Alexa Smith and Bill Platt. They seem to be the most knowledgeable in this area, and their information helped me greatly.

            Good luck!

$heeeeeeeeet, I was under the impression that I'd have to spin each article before submitting them to the top 10 directories.

Hmmm... well... at the moment, I'm faced with 2 roads, the affiliate marketing road, and the article/addsense road.

I've found a nice affiliate project to work on, so depending on how well that goes, I'll have to see... if it proves successful, well, I'll be rinsing and repeating, as they say.

That said, maybe it's best to do both, leave some time for the article marketing... I'd be happy with $100 a week from that, for now.

I've bought market samurai, so it would be a shame to see it go to waste....
