Re: Offline Cash Cow - Business Card Offer?

Hi Warriors - for those of you that have been following the amazing cash cow thread here for a while, I'm wondering if you can help me brainstorm a bit.

I'm making some business cards and I want to put a tagline offer on there so they act as an ad/lead generation tool instead of primarily as a business card.

The main service or idea will be implementing an email autoresponder for their offline business, thus boosting their sales and profits with very little effort on their part. Of course I do other things as well, but that's the hook.

I want the offer to be extremely enticing, but honest at the same time.

I was thinking something along the lines of:

"Ask me how you can boost your monthly sales with no extra effort"

But the "no extra effort" part rings a tiny bit false...

Any bright ideas out there? I'm sure all you copywriting experts out there could pull one of these offers out of your hat in about 1.37 seconds

Cheers

    Why not follow the advice of the original Cash Cow and put;

Boost Your Sales While Lowering Your Advertising Costs!

    or something similar to that.

I think your tagline is great. Who wouldn't want to boost their sales?

But if you don't want to sound misleading, just take off the "with no extra effort" part.

Hmm - I like these, but the only thing is that I don't really want to associate myself with ad reps... or for that matter traditional media. I know it is a contrast, but its still the association thing... I really like the guarantee aspect though.

I'm a graphic designer by trade so this is going off on a tangent slightly so apologies but I thought in addition to the copywriting slant of the card, you may want to consider playing around with the graphics of the piece to get attention.

Here are a few links (not affiliated in any way) to some brilliant cards that may spark a creative idea in you. Well, some I think are overdone and look cool in theory but have zero functionality but nevertheless:

Cool business card designs | creativebits
    http://www.reencoded.com/2008/05/20/...-to-100s-more/

    Some ideas:

    - Business card looks like it's a $100 bill (or part of it)
    - Or have your's like the medication card ruxiten. Your last name sounds vaguely medicine like. So something like Boettcher - 1 Dose - Boosts monthly Sales!

sorry, hope i didn't hijack your thread here!

I'm liking this one... could perhaps combine that with Davegfx's $100 bill idea and modify it like this:

"Turbo-Charge your sales AND profits with less effort than it takes to read the business section each morning or I'll give you a REAL $100 bill."

LOL - I've NEVER heard my name compared to a medication before, thanks for the chuckle!

Some very interesting designs there, for sure... though your $100 idea is intriguing.

    LOL....sorry, a medicinal sounding name...that's a massive compliment!

Your combined idea sounds like a winner. Not sure if it can be shortened at all, seems like a fair bit of copy to go on a biz card. Maybe put the offer up front? "I'll give you a REAL $100 bill if...."

    Jonathan:

Please don't use the ones above. Use anyone of these two for your business:

    1) "Call me to see how you can get a lifetime of free advertising"

    2) "Wanna know why 95% of small business owner's advertising is
not working? Call me if you want to know this little known secret!
    [/U]

    3) " What seperates most businesses from others is a great product and a good marketer". You have the product....so now you need to give me a call".

    4) "Many small business owners do not know how to make money on autopilot. Give me a call to find out this little known secret".

    5) "Call me if you want to know the secret of how to make your website a virtual cash machine"

I have many more...but this should just give you a taste of what you looking for. #3 is about YOU (which you may want to avoid...but its still funny). #1,2, 4 & 5 is about the client...you should choose one of these in my opinion.

    Hope this helps !

Why not put a specific offer on there...

"Ask if you qualify for a $500 internet marketing consultation as a complimentary gift"

"Ask about an effective alternative to paid advertising that costs pennies on the dollar"

      Etc.

Being more SPECIFIC encites curiousity and makes these things far more interesting.

Specific numbers can also increase the interest level.

"Ask how business are getting $51 back for every dollar they spend"
(the return on investment for email marketing).

      Kindest regards,

      How's that for objectivity?

Why not put together a handful of options and make them up into postcards and do a test mailing? Let your prospects vote with their wallets. Then print up your business cards with the winner and roll out.

      Here's another idea...

Take your list of taglines, turn them into AdWords ads, and test some actual responses. This accomplishes two things:

      1. You get actual test data. If you want to know which tagline will garner attention and responses, look at the numbers. As long as you have a statistically significant number of trials, the numbers won't lie.

      2. You have a case study to talk about. "How do I know it works? I use it myself. Now when I print cards or place ads, I'm pretty sure they'll work. Is it a sure thing? No, but it works a lot better than letting the ad rep design the ad..."

        That's a GREAT idea, John.

There's been lots of great ideas for taglines posted here, but I still like the OP's original tagline the best: "Ask me how you can boost your monthly sales with no extra effort." It's short, states the benefit and gives a good call to action.

I've just posted this in the "Cash Cow" thread:

If you feel comfortable using business cards, use them. If not, don't. But I truly don't think it's worth stressing over or putting off getting out there if you don't have them. (I'm not getting business cards.)

I'm a copywriter, so I would say that if you DO have a business card, MAKE AN OFFER on the card. You can spend money for pretty, unique designs, but pretty designs don't sell. Offers do.

What's your USP? (Hint: it has something to do with lowering marketing costs while increasing sales and business.) So base your offer around your USP.

You can offer a free consultation on the business card. Make it a specific offer: 30-minutes or one hour. The more specific, the more credible it will be. Better yet, don't call it a consultation. A lot of people associate "free consultation" with "sales pitch." (Not all.) Call it a marketing "audit" or something similar. Give the audit a name.

Or you could write a short report "How to Thrive in a Recession and Dramatically Lower Your Advertising & Marketing Costs While INCREASING Your Sales" and offer it as a free gift. Call them or send them a letter offering the free report and tell them you'll bring it by. (Put the free report offer on the card.) When you go in, start questioning them.

This is rough, not a completely polished offer. Tweak it. Make it specific and compelling. Any business card with AN OFFER will far outperform any business card that doesn't.

I was re-reading Dan Kennedy's book "No B.S. Direct Marketing for Non-Direct Marketing Businesses" and he instructs his readers to put their businesses on a strict direct marketing diet: Nothing, absolutely NOTHING, goes out your door without an offer. Dan Kennedy points out that the primary reason almost all advertising is such a colossal waste of time, effort and, worst of all, money is lack of specific offers or packages tailored to their target audience.

I agree. Make your business cards work harder. Make an offer.

I agree with the majority here, send them to a lead capture page to download some free info. Maybe send them there and have a video pop up first on the page with you talking about what you specialize in.

I think its too hard to get them to call you from recieving your card as nearly all bix owners will expect a sales pitch so its easier to prequalify interested biz owners first!

Dont sell your services here, just skim the benefits,

More customers - More Profit - More often (That type of thing)

Then tell them to signup for a free report below.

You then capture email addresses from interested biz owners poractively signing up for help!

Some great ideas here. I ended up going with "Ask me how you can boost your profits with less effort than a trip to the bank" on the front, with my contact info etc. Then on the back there is a graphic of a $100 bill (modified enough to be legal) with "Your satisfaction guaranteed or I'll give you $100 cash"

In the next batch I think I might try out Andrew's suggestion of "Ask me how businesses are getting $51 back for every dollar they spend" I like how that is direct, specific, and grabs the attention pretty quick.

The satisfaction guaranteed part has caught the attention of every single person I've given this card to, though I'd still like to make it stronger, or more specific. I went with "satisfaction" instead of profits because sometimes the first job they want me to do doesn't really have the potential to stun their accountant (hopefully, we build up to that =).

I usually hand them my card with the $100 part facing up so they see that first.

Just thought of another idea - have a totally blank card (perhaps with a strong color background) and say "this card is ugly but the results I can guarantee are beautiful" or something along those lines. Then name and phone number small at the bottom.
