Article Syndication or Theft?

I've been submitting articles to the usual directories for a few months now.

I thought I would check to see if any were being syndicated...

Out of 3 pages of G00gle results (checked 3 different articles) only two sites had used the resource box!

I am pleased that webmasters find my articles good enough to use but I would like SOME credit (or some link-juice) for my efforts...

Can anyone suggest strategies to counter these thieving ratbags? Or do I just have to suck it up?

    Hey Kev,

generally speaking most article directories require the article be copied in its entirety with the links intact(There are exceptions) so assuming the article was copied from a directory like Ezine articles which requires the article and links left intact, the person who removed the resource box is in violation of the directory ToS, and they have also violated your copyright.

The following link should be of use to you as to how best proceed in having the website owner remove the content by issuing a DMCA notice.

    It has helped me

Yes: when writing for syndication, don't use a "salesy" resource-box. That suppresses the "ratbaggery" aspect of their personalities when they're sourcing content for their sites.

Nobody wants someone else's sales promotion on their website. The reality is that many people will "conveniently forget to include your resource-box" if you use a "writing-for-clicks" style resource-box on a "writing-for-syndication" style article.

You can contact them, of course, asking them to reinstate your resource-box, but they may delete the article instead, which doesn't do you much good. You can eventually serve a DMCA notice, if you want them to delete the article. But this situation (quite frequent in some niches) is relatively easily and relatively commonly avoided by using a different style of resource-box - and with some potentially huge advantages in traffic, high-quality backlinks, opt-ins and sales, by doing so!

Good advice. i will add to it by saying if you simply make your resource box more friendly and not very ads aggressive then I think many webmasters will very happily put it up with no problem. But if it carries a high pitch that is aimed at creating sales and or clicks then well .................

      You know the rest.

Hello warriors, I am running into the same problem. I found several of my articles being used w/out giving me credit. I am in a way flattered but very upset. I already contacted the administrator of t hat site. so I will keep checking it to see if he fixes it. otherwise I will serve him a DMCA notice.

        thanks
