Article Writing Made Easy With The iPhone

Hey All,

As many of you already know, Verizon has recently
started to carry the iPhone. And as my Verizon plan
was due for an upgrade I decided to pick one up.

I already own Dragon Naturally Speaking, so I decided
to try out the Dragon Dictation App. It was free so I
figured what the heck.

I was shocked at how easily it picked up and transcribed
my voice. And the best part is that you are able to copy
and paste the text, and even email it.

This is a great way to get some articles done if you own the
iPhone 4 and have some free time. Just email it to yourself,
then copy and paste it to your site, blog or even an article
directory.

That is some cool trick. Never knew this app even though I use Dragon Naturally Speaking to transcribe audio files.

    Will try that.

Over time, you may need to train Dragon. It was about 95% accurate when I started using it. Now it is about 99% accurate.

Dragon Naturally Speaking does speed my writing sometimes, and at others, when I start fixing errors, I just stick to the keyboard to finish.

The iPhone "Dragon Dictation" app doesn't have training capability unfortunately, it's more of a quick memo-maker/facebook updater.

Also, it stops to "process" the dictation (without notifying you) about every 50 words, taking 3-4 seconds to translate it into text (while you're blathering on without knowing it's not recording)...

It's a nice app in a pinch, but in no way compares to Naturally Speaking on a PC.

There's plenty of software for the pc that does that, why only notice when you buy an iPhone that you can dictate into a machine?

For droid phones you can do the same and a whole lot more, with google's Voice Actions.

The droid stuff stops frequently to translate too. Very small sections compared to the computer versions. Plus you must have a really good signal and a good bandwidth plan helps... AT&T limits to a couple gigs per month

The Iphone app is pretty good in a pinch. I use it often. There are much better mobile options out there though. Iphone has a way of making you feel special when they have an app available that serves a specific niche. Then you realize that same feature has been available forever on much older phones and blackberries.

It's not DNS, but many mobile phones such as blackberry and Motorola have had this function for a couple of years. Since last August most Droid phones had this preinstalled. If you have a droid phone v 2.2 you can get Voice Actions by going to the Android Market (installed on your phone) and downloading it. Or just go to market.android.com

For speech to text: Load the default android keyboard in any text entry program like email or sms (press and hold text box, select input method), and tap the microphone icon. It's on 2.1 and up, maybe 1.6 but not sure.
