Google Tip For Non US Residents

As you know Google has a different site for most countries.
Here in South Africa mine is google.co.za.
Even if I type google.com into my browser it defaults to the .co.za domain.

We also know that most of us are trying to rank well in the US Google because that's where the majority of online buyers tend to be. Your site will rank differently in each country.

This link should open up the Google.com version for you and you will see results as the US residents are seeing them.

Another google tip - I recently discovered that your rankings are different when you opt for a different USA location from the one their system defaults to based on your ISP. Many keyword phrases we rank in the top 5 for on the default show up about position 19 or lower when we switch to another city around the country.

My theory on this is that our KW's show up higher on our local default because we are checking them every day? Anyone else looked at or found this??

Yes definitely. If you are working on your site a lot, and click on it from searching for it, Google will move it up the ranks just for your own viewing.

About 2 weeks ago I nearly went through the roof when suddenly my site was number 1 after only about 3 weeks for a pretty competitive keyword.
I then did a search later in the day from my office and I was nowhere to be seen. I then remembered reading about this somewhere before.

Try and clear your cookies and browsing history and it will return to normal.

There is a Firefox add-on that let you view the results as if you are from a specific location. Useful if you are targeting viewers from several different countries.
