Article Content On Your Site

There appears to be a bit of confusion around the use of article content on your site.

Most of us agree that Google loves fresh content. An easy way to do this is by posting new articles on your site (ideally once a week).

The issue comes in though when people start talking about Google's hatred of duplicate content.

So, Do you post your own articles on your site (the same ones you submit to directories).

And if Google doesn't like duplicated content, why do people use content from article sites as a form of content on their site?

I post my own articles on my site but will post someone else's also if relevant and well written. I won't post inferior content.

Everything I put on a submission site goes up AFTER I post it on my own site.

The controversy about duplicate content is often misunderstood and beyond that, Google changes algorithms at times and slams those kinds of sites. When that happens you see the people posting rehash in here crying about "where did my website go".

For awhile duplicate content was actually a term referring to sites who actually put up multiple look alike pages just to add pages to a website to make it look like there was more to the site than there actually was -- and those got slammed pretty hard. I don't think that there is so much of a problem with duplicate content when what is referred to is content that you've picked up from somewhere like a submission site to post on your site when you mix it with fresh content. Never hurt anyone who used any of my articles and I never saw repercussions from it on my sites either.

Just stop listening to them. Honestly. They have no idea what they're talking about. Ok, I'm outspoken today, but it's true. These are people who don't quite understand the difference between "duplicate content" and "syndicated content".

    Always.

If you have time to read all the incidental conversation in this fine thread, it'll explain the whole thing, and you'll find there a whole succession of experienced, successful, professional article marketers all explaining why that isn't really "duplicate content" in the sense that some people wrongly claim it is, and there isn't a "duplicate content penalty" for that, and why that's what they all do.

    • If it's good enough for you Alexa, it's good enough for me.
So no problems picking articles from Ezinearticles.com and putting them on my site once a week I take it?

No, not at all, subject only to these conditions.

Yes, I put content on my own website, then I syndicate that content.

My sites are a mix of original and duplicate content, and some of my duplicate content drives a considerable amount of traffic to my websites from Google.

As to your second question, people use content from the article directories to give their readers information of interest. Our visitors want on-topic and relevant information, and we give it to them, sometimes using content created by others.
