I have a couple of sites built around a couple of long tail keywords that I've been working on for a while. I know just from reading the forum here that getting good placement on Google is doable if all the pieces are properly in place. What I would like to do is get one of these site on page 1 of Google and to participate in the process of getting it there.

The reason is that I have several sites that I want to repeat the process with so I need to get a clear handle on the process.

I've done a lot with the two sites I'm currently working on but my problem is that the concept of what it takes to place on Google is so diverse and there so many things that really need to be done and other things that should be done and yet still other things that would be a good idea to do. It's difficult to boil it all down to a hand full of steps that are absolutely essential and then other steps that are icing on the cake etc. I feel a bit like a ship without a rudder.

It would be great to look over someone's shoulder as they take a site from inception to 1st page on Google. Any site, well almost any site. Something with reasonably competitive keywords.

Any takers???

Just about all strategies work, but the "best" one will depend on how long is the longtail and level of competion. A really long tail with no competition, with decent on-page SEO will get there all by itself. The "less long the tail" or the stiffer the competion, it'll need some coaxing.

How you coax it will depend on the pages that are already on page one. If they all have a million backlinks, then gettting a million plus one may be your first strategic move.

Another way of saying it is to look at the page you want to bump off page one and beat it. (look at it's keywords, amount of related content, backlinks, etc, and do "it" better.

Good luck (and report back if/when you get them there!)

      Ron,
What have you done already, SEO wise?
      What was the result?

Ok the first site is income-online.us. Income-online is showing about 6500 searches a day in Google and about 9400 total Google, Yahoo, Bing. (I'm using "Traffic Travis")

OK the site I'm currently working on is freemoneyonline.us. Free money online is showing about 6700 searches a day for Google and about 9400 a day total Google, Yahoo, Bing. Inurl and intitle show about 18,000 sites.
Search term inurl:"free money online" intitle:"free money online"

The permalink settings in Wordpress are /%catagory%/%postname%/ and I generally try to give new post names that are or have the keywords in them. I'm trying to make the content keyword rich for several variations on different keywords and as much as possible I'm trying not to stuff the content with the same keywords i.e. "free money" more than 2 to 3 times.

I've also run Scrapebox on it once and it appears to have some links that have stuck. I have also paid for a linkwheel service that should be finished in another week.

I must say though I did let something slip by me. I had the privacy settings to hide the site from Google but I have just corrected that.

I think one of the things giving me difficulty is that I came to this with no experience at all and what I've learned is mostly from this forum and a great deal from the person who originally got me started on this "Brian Bear" if anyone has ever heard of him. He has a site with tons of material on SEO and other aspects of internet marketing. The problem is that there is sooo much and there is no real order to any of it. It's difficult to see a organized plan of approach to it all. It's a bit like trying to drink from a fire hose.

Travis is optimistic! Google says 29 searches per day for that exact keyword phrase - 'Income Online'

Hmm... When I try Google's keyword tool it shows about 90,000 monthly searches for "income online".

    OK.

I would reverse the roll play though.

I would look over your shoulder and explain why certain things are the way they are so that you can apply it to other sites.

For example, you'll find out how "common sense" onpage and offpage seo really is when you take away all the IM chatter and inexperienced assumptions.

Onpage (think engine..aka..authority) seo is just half the front, you need offpage (think spark plugs) to jump start your efforts. Which brings in Market Reach.

  • Hi Ronc0001...

Your aim is to have the pages of your websites taking the top page 1
spots in Google for your target keywords...

Your purpose for this objective is to get targeted traffic, correct?

Your purpose for getting targeted traffic is to increase sales, right?

    What I'd do is:

    1. Go to Google and use my target keywords...
    2. Take note of the top 10 page results for each keyword...

    3. Determine if any of those pages and sites accept content contributions
from viewers or promote discussions between viewers...

    4. Pinpoint ones that do not accept content contributions and discussions,
then identify if those webmasters are amenable to JVs like content
contributions in exchange for website review content with links or solo ad
placement or mailing list ad placement...

    5. Contribute useful content and point them to my onsite pages offering
supplemental benefits not found on those external pages and sites
    mentioned in number 3...

    6. Develop content for the pages and sites mentioned in number 4...

    7. Determine the Google PR, domain age, number of backlinks and sources
of backlinks of the top 10 page and site results for my target keywords...

    8. Outdo what they have done as mentioned in number 7...

This way: I generate traffic and improve my sales by funneling my
target audience from those top ranking sites and pages to my onsite
pages with supplemental benefits offering unique value not found in those
top ranking sites and pages, via my useful content contributions...

All while simultaneously implementing ways to improve the Google
PageRank and the Google SE rankings of my sites and pages for my target
    keywords...

For me: This is better than just aiming to rank my pages and websites on
Google's first page without simultaneously implementing ways to generate
traffic and improve my sales in the process...

For me: Traffic and sales count more than top Google SE rankings...

both kewword pharases look like a good battle if you want page one. I see thousands of backlinks to the sites currently perched on the first page.
