Hi Warriors, I'm a grunt, fresh from basic and I need your help please.
I have 1 site which will expand to perhaps 10, using wordpress to create basic corporate sites all pushing different specific keyword phrases for the same product. I want to get to the top of google for natural SEO for each site.

These sites will be long term sites, for a very legitimate education product. What should be my SEO strategy? So far I have:

used plug ins to push by blog posts to twitter, facebook, squidoo and linked in (but of course I have no followers on these newly minted social media accounts
Optimised site with unique metadata and reasonable keyword density for each page.
Started looking at competitors backlinks and posting in the same places.

  • Should I write content for my blog?
  • Should I write articles, (different from the on-site ones)? if so where/how should I get them out these?
  • Will I damage my PR or long term viability if I use the various services in this forum to create masses of 0 PR backlinks?
  • How do I get followers in facebook? Should I pay for them?
  • Twitter followers is easy enough, but linked in will need to be a manual strategy over years I suspect.
  • Most of the backlinks I see are no follow, yet they are still found by google, what gives?
Most of the competitors ranking in top three have a PR of 2-4, so I'm assuming they have high trust rank and old domains. In one case they also have lots of backlinks and well over 1000 pages. How do I combat that?

Please help. This is my first internet money making venture, I'm not especially techie and I have to make a go of this, I'm nearly broke and I have 5 mouths to feed (4 plus one in the oven

Thank you heaps for any advice you can give me.

  • Hi mfbpc68,

When you build backlinks make sure you get those without the nofollow attribute, because even though nofollow links might show up in tools, they don't contribute to your rankings or PR if that is your goal.

You can beat the competitors on the first page, just make sure your sites are relevant (hint: keyword domain name + keyword optimized URL for inner page) and also build lots of links to inner pages, not only to your homepage. The linkjuice will naturally transfer over to your domain if you build links to inner pages as well, so you get to kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

By the way, what do you deem "reasonable keyword density"? Make sure to not overdo it as you could get flagged for keyword stuffing. Rather keep it below 3%.

    For your other questions:
    - yes, you should write content for your blog
    - if you want to do article marketing, you should obviously write articles or outsource them. There are lots of places to do that, either in this forum or on fiverr.com
    - I have no idea about twitter/FB since this goes into the realm of social media marketing and doesn't have to do with SEO
    - you won't damage your pr by getting lots of PR 0 links, obviously the higher PR your backlinks are the better they will contribute to your pr. Just make sure all links are "dofollow" or they won't increase your pr.

    Hope that helps!

It is possible to spin very high quality articles, anyone that tells you differently just doesn't know how to do it, but it takes a lot of time.

It's pretty tedious because you actually have to pay attention to the substitutions, not just select the entire list of synonyms. You can also manually "spin" your article, by rewriting each sentence a few times or whatever.

The more you write, the better. From what I hear, those that write better quality articles get better results, but YMMV. Some people use article directories just for backlinks, but that seems foolish to me. You might as well pick up the traffic from those sites as well.

I don't personally do a ton of article marketing, but when I do submit articles they always bring traffic to my sites. A few bring a considerable amount. It's easy to see how if you scaled it up, you can drive a good amount of traffic to your site.

Thanks Packerfan, that's good info, I will probably go with manual rewriting then, because I definitely want traffic as well as PR. But how do I submit articles? Whats the best software or service out there (I don't want to do it manually) or do i?

Yep my domains are keyword based, and all pages have keyword specific page titles in the url (except the home page which is just the root domain. Is that good or should I add a keyword rich page as the landing page too? (The domain itself is keyword rich but not an exact match for the phrase I'm targeting)

Great tip for building links to inner pages, did not know that, thanks

Also, the 3% thins is a good tip, I was doing 4-5% so will scale it back a bit.

Which services should I use to submit articles? (I will write them and they will be unique and high quality)? Should I use some sort of spinner software or service to multiple them (though from what i've seen these auto-reworked articles are pretty awful and would be easy to spot as duplicates by google, I would have thought)

The social media stuff, I thought since caffeine, Google has put increased emphasis on social media in its search algorithm

Thanks your advice is excellent and I do appreciate it

          Hey mfb,

You would definitely GAIN alot from the War Room....it 'could' put you on information overload, however, if you aren't cautious. I'd recommend allocating just a little time each day to it. Coming home from basic, you should have some decent cash saved up....might not be a bad investment...

Where you are right now, I'd encourage you to seek out alot of free information as well. Typically, this requires subscribing to email lists...you 'should' want to actually hear from those people, however, if you don't, set up an extra Yahoo account or something like that to receive the free products. Some will hate me for recommending that....lol...but, well, there is ALOT of free stuff out there. Most blogger/IM'er eBooks that are given to you upon subscription to their email lists are jam packed with back-end affiliate sale links anyway.

D have done that couple of years now, using not my primary email, for all those overhyped IM marketers who claim that they are the gurus of im world. You also learn about their newsletter writing stile.

Cause of that i have made a lot of conclusions, who is real deal and who is just not so good. Most of them actually do not give any value, cause their newsletters are so boring and well they all look the same.
Over the time thou i have transferred some of them to my primary email, cause those give value and insight, by just subscribing again to their list.

Those IM'ers probably take serious shortcuts, liz. Of course, the degree of value that is given is entirely subjective and based on one's own experiences. For example, I could write a course on basic HTML that may be of absolutely no use...providing no value...to others. OR...it could be a gold mine to those who don't know anything about HTML.

It all just 'depends'. Know your audience.

  • Hi mfbpc68...

I won't be tackling effective offline strategies in this post, though you'd
need to consider these to improve sales and traffic sooner than later...

Your main priority should be sales...
Next would be targeted traffic to gain sales...

At this point business and brand name visibility in online places where your
    target audience frequently hangs out...

Then building relationships with your target audience in those online places
by establishing your reputation as a friendly expert source of useful
information, helpful advice and beneficial content in those online places
    and via your own sites...

And: Doing the things above all while simultaneously improving the Google
PageRank and Google SE rankings of your onsite pages for your target
    keywords...

With this: You constantly gain higher sales from more targeted traffic, all
while improving the Google PageRank and Google SE rankings of your sites
    and pages in the process...

Instead of: Heavily implementing techniques to improve the Google
PageRank of your onsite pages and top SE rankings for your target
keywords, without getting traffic and sales in the process...

Firstly, you come across as a pretty clued-up newbie, far more considered a post than an awful lot I have seen!

I haven't any really deep knowledge, but for sure any legit places you can get Follower types (Twitter, FB, Linkedin), with links to your site, any articles / ebooks you can publish will undoubtedly help, but it DOES seem that Google is getting harder and harder to fool these days, so most "unnatural" methods / autoposting etc may not be of any benefit. "Slow and steady, be natural" seems to be the way that google will reward sites going forward.

Thanks Sumax I've done some reading, I don't want to waste peoples time here with lazy questions, that show I haven't done any prep. So you are advocating a completely whitehat approach, why? because BlueFart (I wrote colour of midnight head covering) but it changed it to bluefart thats very funny) or grayhat just doesn't work in long run?

Thanks Marx good points, I do need sales now, so will do digging to find out where my target audiene hangs, I suspect there are two groups (mainly staff working in bars) so group 1:

18-25 yo in Australian capital and they frequent facebook, so will need to work out how to get them to be friends with me.
Group 2 - Their managers, probably 21-35, capital cities, not sure where they hang out, will research.

      great advice thanks.

It depends on your niche whether you have to write content from scratch or not. That is up to you. Realistically from personal experience there is nothing wrong with using PLR if you do not want to write articles.

Contrary to popular belief...Google does not have Artificial Intelligence, therefore you can get backlinks pointing to your site whether it is rank 0 or more. No one can predict who links back to your site and it would even be dumber to suggest that a search engine will penalise you for that fact. Just space it out if you are paying someone to do it. Make it relevant to your site to some degree.

As for Facebook...start with adding them yourself. All I did was search for people who had similar interests like me and had a little auto message saying that I would like to connect to them based on the hobby we share. More than 90% of people added me.
