What do you guys do when have a brandable domain but just don't know what to do with it? I'm sitting on one that I bought a while back for a project I wanted to start that never really got off the ground and want to do something with it but can't think of what.

    Keep sitting on it?

It's hard to say since you didn't mention what the domain was. If it's good, hang on to it until the time is right. If it's a good domain it's only going to increase in value over time.

Like Jasons said, what is the domain?

Is it brandable or has it got the brand name in it?

Lets see it so we can make a clear decision for you. I own a few myself and got 2 nice ones up for auction this Friday.

Why not just tell us the domain and we can give you better advice. If you are just parking it, without a strategy, then it's not going to go anywhere. If you are sitting on a domain, you should always have a reason.

      Multiversi.com

Initially I wanted to create a blogging platform for fictional blogging with it, so people could create a blog (ala blogspot) but specifically for fictional blogging and writing.
It would be more sweeter if it had the 'on' attached for MultiVersion.com but still a good brandable as is. I don't know what keywords would fit it or maybe a multiple of products or services in fictional niche or so.

It's pronounced Multi-verse-eye. It's kind of a play on Multiverse which is the theory that there is more than one universe which relates to what I wanted to do with it in the first place.

I say keep it. You just might need it later.

Yeah but it feel like a waste just sitting on it doing nothing at the moment.

Of course, do something with it as well. Brandable domains such as yours aren't exactly easy to sell on the open market, and I imagine it'd take a fairly large amount of effort to market it to the right prospects who'd see value in it.

IMHO, If I see that domain for sale I will pass it.
Obviously, you may have good plans for it.
In that case, set up a Wordpress site with a 300 words report
and will get indexed by Google.
When you are ready to do something with it will be much easier.

      Need it?

I'm assuming the OP wants to build a business.

No point keeping it in case they need it "later".

I don't buy domains I may need later, I buy domains to make a profit.

Looks like you had a great idea what to do with your domain (reading through your post here). 'Gave up on it?

To a degree, yeah. The Wiki style idea evolved into a blog style idea (which I was going to charge a small monthly fee to stop spammers and make sure that the name was only associated with real writers and the fiction niche)

I recently pulled several of my highly brandable domains from Sedo and am in the process of consolidating them all under one main sales page with a link to sub sales pages. I'm adding affiliate links to associated products on the sales pages.

As a sample, here is one I just revamped today: http://couponmax.ca I am using this sales page to promote a fellow warrior's product that is directly related to the domain name.

Another one along similar lines that still needs a bit of tweaking is: AmazingPhotoBooks.com Domain Name for Sale

Your question was asking for suggestions as to what to do with them. What I decided to do with mine was to post them for sale at a price I would be happy with. If they don't sell I will use them myself, or create a site for someone else at a later date and include the domain as part of the package.

Rather than park them on Sedo, I have added them to one of my primary domains and included a related affiliate link in each sales page. I will soon begin promoting them both online and offline. If they sell, I move on to another project; if they don't - I'll develop them somewhere down the line. Meantime, they will probably earn their keep in affiliate sales.

The sales pages were done using an html template, but for wordpress users, the identical template is here: http://salespagepro.com/ (I believe the creator of this Wordpress sales page template is a fellow warrior...?)

I think it also doesn't help that I've sort of got it stuck in my head that to make money online, you HAVE to promote "make money online" products. It's stupid, I know, I'm trying to get out of that mind set (Hell I made an affiliate sale on a game guide...)

If you bought a domain name, you bought it because you either had an idea as to how to develop it, or you recognized the potential of the domain for a product or service you had in mind.

One thing I have learned (sort of, that is...) is never to second guess what someone else might have in mind for that particular name.

When I list a domain for sale, I just advertise what I was going to use the name for. Someone else might have an entirely different plan of action.

Just don't let your domains sit there doing nothing. Even a small return on your investment is better than nothing. It sounds like you had a pretty good idea for what the domain was to be used for. If you're not prepared to develop it, someone else will no doubt have a plan of action in mind for the domain should you decide to sell it.

Sit on it, keep it, sell it, or let it die a natural death...

You're the only one who can make that decision after all is said and done.

    Why don't you sell it?
