SMS Marketing - Working For You Or Not?

Hey,

I'd be interested to know what members are
doing SMS marketing currently, and what
kind of results you've been having with it.

Is it working for you only if you do mobile
-related offers? Is it working at all?

Cheers,

I tried AdMob over a year ago or more and the pay per click they had would skin anyone alive!

Users of mobiles are sick of marketers sms's and will click multiple times so you clock up a significant bill.

And then - you end up no orders anyway.

      Hey Tony,

Sorry to hear you had a bad time with AdMob.

I agree that there's a huge potential with SMS
marketing to severely p**s your audience right
off, but were you able to target recipients using
AdMob or did you do some kind of bulk SMS?

      Cheers,

I've been selling SMS texting for nearly six years and now getting into voice texting, QR codes and NFC (near field communications). Many small businesses now are quite readily eager for SMS marketing as well as other technologies. There are several threads especially in the Offline Forum discussing these.

          Hey Paul,

          Very interesting.

Do you offer targeting options for SMS
          texts?

          Cheers,

            @hh66

If you mean bulk SMS text marketing, no. We only set up SMS systems for businesses to market/advertise to their subscribed customers by demographics.

I have also been offering text messaging and have many clients who are totally happy with the repeat customers they can drive to an offer. Our plans are Opt In, and easily opt - out, so if someone opts' in they asked for it, and are usually wanting something.

We had a pizza shop drive in 700 new customers in a single day by a special they offered. Large Pizza and 2 Liter Soda, for $6.00.

They also happened to be near a University, which didn't hurt the campaign.

I'd be happy to share other of our customer reviews if someone wants to hear.

Ok, so these are repeat customers... I understand how they can opt into a text campaign... so...

So how did they get NEW customers from a campaign that is opt-in for their existing customers? I don't follow. Can you explain?

Very curious too how the pizza shop got 700 "new"customers in a day from an opt-in only list. Did 700 new students opt-in & visit the restaurant that day? What plan did you use to get so many opt-ins?

  • I haven't tried it personally, but as someone who often gets sms's I would say that key is the same with any marketing. It's all about hitting the right audience. An audience that wants what you are promoting.

9/10 times I delete the sms right away because the message is promoting something I am not interested in, but every now and then they will get me with something that I am looking for and I take an interest.

With online marketing, the solution is to go for targeted keywords in the search engines, but I'd be interested to know how one does this with sms's?

Targeted SMS works. Not for bulk SMS.

SMS have a 90% open rates.

People don't leave their homes without their keys and their phones.

A lot of people even get their phones to sleep beside them - "just in case."

SMS if done right works. I've used it!

This is discussed quite extensively in the Offline Forum. However, providing this type of service can be quite labor-intensive with just a few clients. All I do is sell the service, do some quick training for my clients' internal IT staff or designated rep, and collect the monthly residual checks. An excellent service I've been using for the past six years is callfire.com because it is compatible with all platforms and carriers. They provide full training through webinars and an online knowledgebase. The most effective value is offering it as a door opener or lead-in to sell far more profitable products and services.

Mobile marketing and text message marketing definitely work, but the number one mistake I see people doing is treating it the exact same way as e-mail marketing. It's awesome for sending them reminders, alerting them to special offers or the close of a special offer soon, etc., but if you're just trying to hit them each day with a new offer to go to a new website of yours without much more reason, I find it less effective.

And on another note, I've had tons of offline clients for MobileAutoresponder.com use it for their local businesses to announce coupons, limited time deals, important news / updates, etc..
