I am new to give this game of blogging and I have just recently put up a simple blog on weight loss niche.

It looks a bit too plain for me. Try to add a custom design. It will give you a professional look which will make people more likely to purchase whatever you are planning on selling

You need to work on your content and weightloss is a very competitive niche. I suggest you have a good link building system in place and don't expect to see the result in a couple of months.

Your blog is also too common, search the search engine for WP themes and make change to your theme now.

  Weight Loss is a Good Niche, but you need to Drill Down.
  
  I train health and fitness bloggers, so I'll give you a few pointers.
  
  Pick a Laser Targetted Portion of the Weight Loss Niche: So something like Weight Loss for Busy Moms is much better than weight loss in general. You want people to hit your site and have the site speak to them specifically.
  
  Add More Personality to Your Blog: Anybody can write weight loss articles. What makes your site unique? Who are you? Where are you from? Why should they read your site?
  
  Add Pictures, Videos, Fun Graphics, etc. People go nline to be entertained and learn things at the same time. Make your site fun! Avoid anything that feels like a textbook.

  yeah you definately need to change the theme. it doesnt look right with the trees. probably pick a free theme that is blue and has weights or something

Actually, his real competition is very low. The "competing page" metric has very little bearing in judging competition.

Az Ozegbe - itsallwhite is correct, it does have very low search volume, but considering the low competition for your keyword, and the fact that you have an EMD with a favorable extension, you'll find that you'll rank well with good on-site SEO and some decent link building.

Your competitors aren't optimized very well for your keyword:

Weak on on-page optimization
Not targeting the keyword in title tags
No keyword in the domain or url
Few backlinks for those that are optimizing

Overall, I think that you will find that it won't be difficult to rank. Also, being that your domain is exact match, and is a very generic term in general, I think that you'll be able to easily expand your site within the market on down to the niche level.

It also only has a low search volume. However they may not be going to SE traffic or keyword rankings - what's your traffic plan for this website?

  The guy is an internet marketer, he doesn't need to have lost some weight before setting up a blog on weight loss. I'm sure he's doing it strictly for the money and there's no problem with that IMO.
  
  AZ, I think you should change the theme of your WP site and add more contents or articles to it then concentrate on driving traffic to it.
  Don't let things overwhelm you, you've already done far better than a lot of people who won't take action even if a gun was pointed to their heads. Just take things one step at a time and you'll soon start making some money. Search this forum for more useful posts related to blogging and traffic techniques, you'll make it.

Don't use the default WP theme. There are plenty of free themes you can find by searching the internet.

Default theme needs to be change. Also do a few more articles and personalize your blog. Put some images relevant to your topics.

  Next thing you need to do is to take notes and slowly implement most of the suggestions above. list down your questions and take time to find the answer in the forums..if you're stumped then ask away but i suggest researching first.

Well done for taking that first step. As has been mentioned, change your WP theme, although there's no need to go overboard. Often a nice tidy and plain theme works great, particularly if you plan to move your traffic to a slaes page or affiliate partner site.

Consider targetted a sub-niche.

Remember that much of your content should be repurposable with minimal editing, ie an article could be used for 'weight loss for internet marketers' as easily as 'weight loss for teenagers'. You could have various blogs running simultaneously with 'similar' content (though get one up and working first).

I think you have drilled down enough none of the top 5 results in serps are directly about weight loss I think you have a good chance of getting into the top 5 for the keyword steady weight loss but It won't be overnight.
