PayPal Digital Goods Released

PayPal has just released a new service specific to delivering digital goods. This apparently includes eBooks.

The pricing is similar, maybe the same as for micropayments, so it could save you money and offer customers more flexible pricing options.

While some of this is intended to allow easy purchases of gaming items, such as a better sword in a game, there are references to using this in ebooks - even for links within ebooks.

I'm sure someone more tech savvy can explain this better. But if you can use it on your site, and lower your PayPal fees, then it is worth checking out.

That looks extremely interesting. I followed the link here https://merchant.paypal.com/cgi-bin/.../digital_goods and found more on it.

This could be quite a game-changer in some industries.

Okay, I'm not a tech head so here are my questions.

      1. Will this work with DLGuard or RAP?

      2. If not, what changes will have to be made to the coding?

      3. Will this REALLY lower our fees, cut down on fraud and make buying easier?

Call me skeptical but anything that sounds too good to be true, probably is.

      Any feedback is welcome.

** EDIT ** Okay, just did some digging and found out you need a business
account. I have a premiere account and I know that there was a reason
why I didn't go with a business account but I can't remember what it was.

Either the fees were much higher OR the account type was much stricter
on use and, from what I heard, much easier to have shut down on you.

All I know is, after 8 years with a premiere account, I am very reluctant
      to upgrade.

Any thoughts on this from those who have a business account?

I've had no problems at all.

Not sure what a premiere account gets you, but I get a PayPal credit card I can use for purchases and withdrawing cash. I also get "cash back" from PayPal as a reward for using the free card. The business account may also have higher daily purchase limits.

Brian. I did some research on the two accounts and here is the only
          difference I can see,

A premiere account, you have to use your name.

A business account, you can use a business name, if you have one, thus
keeping people from suing you and your assets directly. I guess you'd need
          a LLC for that.

But my concern is, from what I've heard, and again, this is just hearsay,
with a business account, PayPal is much stricter and tougher with you and
it's easier to get your account yanked.

How true this is, I have no idea. But after all these years with a premiere
account, I'm not sure I want to take the chance.

Well, couldn't you just grab an LLC/DBA and slap up a business account under a different name than what you used for your personal/premiere account?

I've had a PP Business acct for over 10 years and no problems. I like that I can use the Debit card for purchases and my spending limit it sky high. I earn money back on purchases, too, which is nice. You do not need an LLC or any other type of incorporation to get a Business acct. DBA is fine.

I have an INC, which I have under a Business account at PayPal. When they say "Express Checkout", wouldn't that mean the $30 a month merchant upgrade? Which is a step up from the "Main business account" that I have.
