No internet for 2 weeks - Any suggestions?

I am moving house next week and have just found out they can't install the internet there for 2 weeks!!!

Any suggestions on what to do for 2 weeks...

I have internet on my smart phone but thats not enough to build websites etc.

I can continue with my Facebook business via my phone it will just take me a long time. Thinking perhaps of outsourcing it.

Any ideas on what I can do for 2 weeks I will be very bored for sure

Thinking may try to get stuck in with writing some articles and then submit them all when I get back online.

Let me know I am open to all suggestions..

  • Yeah, definitely get content done or anything else that helps your online business, since you still have access to your computer? You could still create websites on your computer, just not upload them until they got the internet installed.

Also public libraries, internet cafes, Starbucks (my favorite). Many of the larger bookstores also have wifi.

What kind of Smartphone do you have? You might be able to tether internet, esp if you have a droid.

Can't you just get an Internet connection gadget thru your mobile phone carrier to insert into a USP port for something like $60 per month? I think there are also some wireless companies that don't hassle with long-term contacts, either.

I think you have a great opportunity here for a mammoth brainstorming session...without the daily distractions than an Internet connection provides you can allow yourself to just be for a few days, clear your head, and think about where you want your business to go 3 months from now, 6 months from now, next year...

Take walks, breath some fresh air, meet your new neighbors, and write down every idea you get for two weeks. Once your Internet connection is back up I think you'll find that you have a renewed passion for your business.

Write articles until your fingers fall off. Write them in series of three...use two in each series of three as uniques to be used by you and you alone. Then syndicate the daylights out of the third in the series with links in it pointing to the other two.

Try to crank out two series per day...i.e. six articles/day.

In two weeks you'll have 84 articles with 56 uniques and 28 syndicated which can spread across the web with a ton of backlinks pointing to your 56 uniques.

Google will be licking it's lips.

As mentioned above you can easily tether to your PC or laptop with your smart phone. More about this at the end of this post.

I have made it a point to figure out how to build/update sites with nothing with my droid. The apps are all in the market and they are free. AndFTP is a true FTP program and it is fast. You can log into your cPanel from a droid and use the cPanel edit function.

Now about Tethering. Go to the app market and download PDA tethering. It is free for one month and after that you can still use it for most things. If you want you can upgrade and use the full version forever. However the month free trial works well within your time frame.

PDA is a real Internet Connection that uses your smart phone's internet 3g or 4g set up. You can tether with the charging cable or wireless.

  • Oh no. Your life will come to a screeching halt. What to do what to do.

I wonder if they have something called wi-fi available in your area. Where I live it seems like there isn't a coffee shop in the area that isn't offering free wi-fi. But I guess if you live in the sticks you might just have to go outside and find something else to do.

I would definitely work on TONS of content creation. Depending on what you use to build websites, you can still build websites, but you won't be able to test anything in a browser.

I've had the internet out for a day or two in the past and I was able to get a ton of content written. It's amazing how easily you can get distracted most of the time, so now I try to set specific time intervals dedicated to getting things done and increasing my focus overall.

But yeah - start cranking out that content!

Honestly, i really wish to be in your situation.

That means, you have two weeks to think about your business or career.

You have two weeks to brainstorm and create an opportunity for yourself that no WSO can provide.

I think I would cry! Anyway if you happen to have an iPhone they are turning the iPhone into a wireless router for up to 5 computers. So if you have an iPhone and say you're at a park, you can hook up to 5 laptops to it to get WiFi access. This is happening this month.

        Yes! Yes! Yes! Pick Me!

        Here's something you can do.

I travel a bit, so I have an evdo highspeed broadband card and I get great reception all over etc etc.

Initially, you had to sign up to contract - but NOW - get this - you can now get the card and do a pre-pay and just pay for the days/hours you use it!

I just saw the cards in a flyer - can't remember if it was best buy or where but do a search and you will find.

Buy the card, and you just pay if you need it or are traveling.

Here is the cool thing too - if you have a laptop you could take the card with you when you travel or still be able to get on the web during a power outage (provided your laptop battery is all charged up).

        Good luck!

Hang out at a local Starbucks or Costa or somewhere else where there is free Wifi, or get interested in your local library.

Failing that, do you not have friends or family anywhere near? I have just hung out with my 90 year old parents 'cos I had a weekend without....!

I haven't read the other posts yet so I hope I'm not being redundant.
Most public libraries allow you to use the internet on their computers, for free.
Of course you can't access any adult sites.....Although for your FB business, it could be great.

Wow.. 2 weeks with no www.... that is like disconnected from the world haha j-k

I would suggest signing up for a Cellular carrier air card type service? Depends on how bad you need it I suppose.

Seriously though, what Will (1960Texan) said... regroup and rejuvenate. Besides, unless you are either really, really organized and have a lot of help, two weeks is about what it will probably take you to get settled in.

I had a delay in getting internet service when I last moved. Drove me nuts, but it allowed me to make some good use of the time to just get settled in. But I also did what others have suggested, and did a fair bit of writing when I was tired of unpacking.

I would definitely suggest finding a way to get online sometimes. Always a good idea to keep an eye on how things are going with your business. Three days after my internet came back on, one of my sites was hit with a massive surge of traffic due to an interview I'd done a few months before and had given up on ever seeing results from. Had to talk with my hosting company to upgrade service to cope with the surge. It was fun, but I hate to think of what I would have missed out on if I hadn't gotten my connection before then.

WOW Thanks for all the responses! So now I am back online and thought I would share with you what I have been doing for the past 2 weeks!

    - I live in Holland so popping to my local Starbucks was not an option sadly as we only have starbucks at the airport here.
    - Not so many places close to me had wifi access and the closest was a bus ride away
    - Thanks for the tip about tethering internet! I LOVE my android even more as I was able to set it up as a wireless hot spot (SUPER COOL) and use the internet on my laptop. However I don't have unlimited data so wasn't able to spend a huge amount of time online just enough to keep things running smooth with my WSO, facebook business, and other websites I manage.

    - Inbetween painting and unpacking I read 5 WSO that I have purchased but not really got into including 1 which really interested me.
    - I rewrote my goals for 2011 and printed them and stuck them to my wall
    - I reorganized my new office in the house and filed all my paper work, brought a new desk and organized all my books!
    - I created some content for my new sites (Not as much as I would have liked because I hate writing content lol)

    - Put together a complete schedule for the WSO that I really liked and have started putting it into action today!

So as you can see I have been vvv busy!
Sometimes it helps to have some time away from the internet to take a step back and focus.

Thanks again for all your comments.
