What's the deal on Wii Download Sites?

Does anyone know if they really work?
Basically they charge a one time membership fee and allow you unlimited downloads.

If you have promoted it or bought their membership before, is it worth the money or it simply just a scam?

Generally they just tell you how to download software so that you can download the games from torrent sites.

terryd is right on the money. I remember back in the day I paid the membership fee for site with music. They just send you to torrent sites that are free.

As far as bringing in money, they probably do pretty decent. Are you thinking about making one of those sites?

    Isn't this illegal...?
It depends on how the product is portrayed.

The actual unauthorized copying of copyrighted materials is illegal - yes. But their terms of use will always state "not to use torrents for illegal means".

(Even though their sites SUGGEST that their "database" has all of these titles available).

I would be very careful about promoting (or creating) sites that imply copyright violations.

I've wondered this myself too. Where is our liability in all of this? And just not with torrents, but gambling, medical products, etc.

I tend to stay away from this stuff, though I can understand how it would do well. It would be easy to make some very appealing sales pitches for this stuff.

Providing they're not actually hosting the files themselves, there shouldn't be any problems. They're just offering the information on how to do it.

    Isn't this illegal...?
    Yes.

Essentially this is a thread about shoplifting. If the game is not specifically licensed by the copyright holder as open source, free, or shareware its illegal.
