Whatup marketing people, I just stumbled on this and Im considering into trying something like this myself. Now, Im a total beginner, where Im clueless on the knowledge of marketing. To gain some experience and practice, I want to create a music blog. Now what are the options to making money off of this, if anything out of it. I go on several hip-hop blogs and I seriously think I can do better to make my site more appealing than theres. They offer download links to the music they find and upload it through hulkshare/mediafire/usershare. This is gonna be straight noobish of me but do they make $$ per download? Do I get the most money off the ads on my site or from what I just said about the downloads? And again, Im totally clueless so a little advice would be helpful!

Well, if they're linking to downloads to copyrighted music without the permission of the artist, I hope they're not making money from it because they're setting themselves up for some serious hurt if someone ever wanted to sue them for copyright infringement.

Unless there's an affiliate program for like itunes or something, you shouldn't be linking to downloads of other people's stuff unless it's explicitly stated that it's free for that kind of thing.

Regarding monetization, there are a million ways to monetize a blog. Advertising revenue is one of them. You can also build a list and advertise there, rent the list, etc.

Take a read throughout the forum, there's a ton of ways to take the information provided here and apply it to your music site.

    good luck!

I'd be careful uploading what isn't yours - unless you're uploading music from artists that give it away for free to promote them, I imagine you'll be stepping on toes, to say the least.

You could do the following easily:

    AdSense (or Chitika, InfoLinks, etc.)
Become an affiliate for the following: Napster, iTunes, Amazon, etc. and place affiliate links to their downloads
Become an affiliate for music-related products (think Music 123 or Musician's Friend) and write blog posts about them from time to time promoting their products. You can also display ad banners on your blog that visitors can click on and go directly to the merchant.

I ran a music blog for a little while, and I made a few $1 leads from OurStage.com, located on Commission Junction. Since visitors don't have to make a purchase here, you're likely to get several commissions if you get lots of traffic.

    Hope that helps a little!
