Hi all,

I saw a domain that is PR 3, and I want to purchase the domain name. How do I go about purchasing the domain name without losing the page rank it has currently? What is the procedure? Please explain...

It's sort of confusing. How are you seeing page rank if its expired?

The domain name is not expired, but it's for sale by the owner.

        Sorry,

I misunderstood. Often happens on the droid small screen. Now I'm on my PC I see better.

Personally I bought a recently expired name, I didn't know it had page rank but when I sat it up it started out with PR 3.

Sadly I lost the page rank on the next Google Dance, even though I had several pages of simi great content.

What about the name and address of the person in whose name the domain is registered? How do I go about handling that?

First of all you should check to see if the PR is valid. There are a LOT of shady people who sell domains with fake PR.

        Do these three things...

        1) Go to http://www.checkpagerank.net and input the domain. Make sure it says the PR is valid.

        2) Go to google and search info:thedomainname.com and make sure the domain you are searching comes up and not some other domain/site.

        3) Go to yahoo and search link:thedomainname.com and check that it has the backlinks to justify the PR.

If it all checks out then you can proceed with the purchase.

If you do get it then put a site/content up on it right away.

The domain name has a PageRank of two, but it has no backlinks. How could that be possible, since it already passed the snift test you recommended above with the exception having no backlinks? Please explain...

If it has no backlinks then I definitely wouldn't buy it. You will almost certainly lose the PR in the next update and it's really not any better than just registering a new one at this point. That is unless you are getting it for super cheap.

It's being sold for $280, and it only has two backlinks; however, it has been registered since 2008 or 3 years ago.

$280 for a PR2 domain with only two backlinks? I would never buy that! You can get PR3-4 domains with many backlinks for less than $100 very easily.

Where could I find a PR 4 domain name for that price? Do let me know.

What are you using to see the backlinks? Try yahoo site explorer or backlinkwatch as they usually show more backlinks than Google. Check pagerank from prchecker.info, this is the website I usually use to check pagerank and always give accurate results.

There are many indivdual sellers selling domain names. Google for them, you will find hundreds.

It all depends on what you want to do. I just picked up a domain for $5 that is 11 years old. No backlinks or PR, but the aged domain makes it worth it. If you want to jackup the PR, then you will have to build a quality site on it. The age will just help it faster.

Don't waste your money. Just go to GoDaddy auctions and pickup something on the cheap.
