Should I hire a virtual assistant?

Here's the scoop:

I've been doing this for long enough to support myself.

Got a few products on the market and the demand for my coaching
is growing steadily.

However, for the past few weeks I noticed an ongoing trend:

I fail to allocate time to do basic things such as sending out
an email to my list, because of all the "to-do" things on my list.

What do I do?

    Hey Igor,

as to whether you should start outsourcing or not, here is something to consider, what is your time worth to you? Do you wish to spend more time with your family? Or scale up your business and make more money?

If you do decide to outsource here is some advice,

    Divide your daily tasks into the following categories;

Menial - Boring repetitve tasks(Link building, article submission etc) which keep the cogs powering your business turning(But dont neccesarily make you money) that can be performed by anybody

Important - Tasks which actually make you money(building relationships etc) that can only be performed by yourself.

Then outsource all the menial tasks so you can focus on the important stuff improving your productivity and bottom line.

Igor, if you find that you don't have enough hours in the day to complete all your essential tasks (and it sounds like you're starting to get pretty busy), then it's definitely time for you to look into hiring a virtual assistant.

Not only will you be able to outsource many of your essential tasks to them, you can also have them remind you about important tasks and appointments, when needed. Looking at it this way, hiring a VA will be a valuable investment that will allow you to concentrate on higher-value tasks, and this should ultimately help to more than offset the cost of hiring one.

And when you hire a VA don't forget to check them even once a day, even just for several minutes, find time if you are too busy. And follow Chris' suggestion in giving out the tasks to your VA. Also try to plan your day as early as you wake up, or as the week starts, do not stick to just one list to use for the whole process.

You all make a solid point: I need a VA.

My next question is: how much does it cost? And how do I know the person is right for the job?

You can try and post an add on oDesk or Elance and see what kind of responses you get. However, hiring freelancers via these market places involves a fee.

      Good Luck!

I would go with Odesk. I think it is the best so far. And you will have more than enough virtual assistants to choose from that you will be left with a problem of choice.

Just be careful not to choose the wrong person.

I would NOT start with a full-time outsourcer if you do not have the money or the work to keep them busy.

The 'only hire full-time' thinking held me back for some time. I have a great part-time outsourcer via oDesk.com. It works well for the both of us.

          Hope this helps.

It costs between $300 and $600 per month to get an assistant in the Philippines, or probably more in other countries. Give them a test before hiring them to make sure they can do exactly what you want them to do. It only makes sense to hire someone if you are making fairly good income ($5,000 per month or higher for example). You will have to train the person, but once they are trained it will be worth it.

I hired one from Philippines for $500. She accepted contract for $400 per month but I had more works given to her than what was expected so I decided to increase it to 500. It was worth it because she was always online and kept me posted with the job's progress.
