Hello Community,

I am working on some article writing and have never used any of the outsourcing sites such as elance.com and I do not have any idea of what I should pay for a 500-1000 word article?

Any suggestions?

It depends on what kind of writing you are looking forward to. If you want a well qualified writer then that should cost you about $5-$10. But if you just want a writer that can do the job then it should cost you from $2-$4 only.

No matter the case just post the job opening and select the best bids or the best writer. It all depend on you.

And I would recommend you to odesk rather than elance no hard feelings to elance though.

This is a really loaded question.

Do you want quality content that get's syndicated to 10's, if not 100's of high quality, heavily trafficked websites, which, in turn, send that traffic to your money site, building you a longterm stable business and income?(This type of content costs $30(min)+, depending on the writer and how in demand they are)

    Or,

Would you like crap to mediocre junk which doesn't get picked up by other websites, that you waste time building back-links to in an attempt to reach spot 1 on Google(Which you never will most likely) that don't send you traffic, never make you money, nor build you a stable longterm business and income?(These typically cost $3-10)

You get what you pay for.

Good quality articles range form $5 - $15 for usually about 500 words. I use odesk, you can also check some of the warrior services offered here. On odesk you can set the price you want to pay and others will bid for the job. Always ask for samples before you hire anyone and be very specific with what you want and how you want it written. I have gotten good quality articles of 1000 words for as little as $5 ea. It is sometimes hard to talk with those from other countries due to the time difference. I love outsourcing just be very specific and hire whoever does the best sample. If they don't do a good job you have the option not to pay them.

I suggest get a sample first then base the price on how the sample was written.

Trust me it will not be easy for a writer I mean a real one to give you a sample of an original article for you to read and decide whether to hire him/her or not. Except you mean an example or sample article that he has written and publish. But if you mean he/she should write you a sample then you are wasting your time. Only newbies who are still struggling in the field will agree to that.

The answer depends on the writer you hire, and your intentions for the content.

SEO articles are a commodity, which means that you can always find someone to do the work for less. You can find people to create SEO articles for as little as $3 an article.

However, if you want articles that will move publishers to present them to the publishers' audience, and the articles will convince a reader to take a desired action, which will lead to direct sales, then you should not view your writer as a commodity, but a skilled professional.

You will never be able to hire a skilled professional to do your writing for $5-$10 an article. You can forget that.

If you want a writer that will drive sales for your business, expect to pay $50 to $500 to have your articles written for you.

Before you start throwing eggs at me, realize that I have seen the real potential of article marketing. I have written articles that have generated sales in the five-figures on their own.

When you understand the real potential of what a great article can do for you, $500 to have an article written for you is a small price to pay for the work that you asking to be done for you.

Thanks for clearing that up Bill. Im getting worried that people are simple forgetting about quality all together, this does not bode well for me. Our intro price for 500 words is 15 dollars... and that is a deal. If you don't care about the image the article gives your site, then sure you can pay 5-10 dollars all day long. If you want your articles to help sell something on your site, on that converts, it will cost more for sure

That right there knocked the ball out of the ballpark. When you understand the mindset Bill pointed out, and the true long term potential, you'll hire full-time writers your own damnself, and treat 'em like gold.

I would personally go and investigate replacemyself.com if you want outsourcing. It is a great site (although you do have to pay for the full service). You can get a great free audio recording that is very good for outsourcing advice. If you have any intention to do this more than once then you need to check it out.

I dont have enough idea about elance. But for any freelancing sites it depends on the provider or workers skill.More skill and good ratings they have means they will ask for a good rate per article. However I have seen many employer are paying 2 dollar per article or some pay 10 to 20 dollar per article. However the average pays between 3 to 6 dollar.

I use Odesk. I give them a description of what I am looking for, i.e. keyword density, I give a budget price, and then you will get many applications. I have been burned by over paying for "high quality" articles. I have gotten some very well SEO'd articles from a writer I have hired through Odesk. I pay 2.50 for a 500 word article that is very well written.

They will write a response to your ad, and you can tell right away how good their english is, and if it sounds like something that would be easy to read for your visitors. Then many times they will provide websites, or samples for you to read. Again, you will be able to discern right away what type of quality they produce.

Out of 25 applications I narrowed it down to a couple of people that have two different types of writing skills. You will also find writers that specialize in different types of topics.

It is such a relief to just spend my time researching keywords, and niches, and then have someone else do the writing, and backlinking. These kinds of sites will make money for you and google will love them.

the kind of costs listed are about right, i would suggest once you find a couple of potential outsourcers get some samples from them, give a tight brief then see what comes if you are commissioning several get to see one first and agree the style etc before proceeding further

if the article will be written by a professional writer and be 100% original than anything between 12$ to 35$ will make sense

As others have said it really depends on the quality you are looking for as well as what you plan to do with the content. You can get articles written for as low as $2, but do not expect great quality and grammatically correct articles for that price. Most of the better articles are in the $10-$15 range.

I also want to mention that elance is going to have a lot of additional fees in order to make themselves money, so you will be paying more than if you found a writer either here on the forum or through the writer's website. Cutting out the middleman (which is essentially what elance, odesk, etc is) will save you money on your content needs.

If you want quality articles, I'd say $5 and try to screen your writers by having them submit samples otherwise go with $1-2 if you want a pure blanketed approach (you probably won't get the best quality though).

I would pay what I think is fair for a quality article. The best thing to try is allow them to write for you at $3 for 300 words. (which is my norm for 300 words) I think $5-$10 is fair for your word count.

Instead of shaking my head at disgust as I am at this thread right now, I will say your answer lies in Bill's (tpw) post.

Those who say that they pay $5 for a "quality" article either don't know what quality is, or have a very underpaid writer who will realize their value at some time and you'll very quickly lose that quality writer.

I just started using Articlez.com and found it to be very efficient, but the quality was mixed. I loved the interface to manage everything ordered. It was good since I was able to give feedback or reject it. Some writers where spot on. Others were not.

Another is Articlesandbeyond.com There are lots out there.

Regarding cost it depends on your purpose. If it is homepage content you want it to be your best, therefore paying ~$100 is nothing if done right and optimized. However, if it is general content you could get articles up to $16 per 500.

Professional copy writing often commands in the $50/hour and up, and that is without specific niches, eg medical, tech etc. which can pay much more. The more specialized the need, the more you would pay. Sites like elance mostly deal with, as another poster put it, "commodities."

If you are just filling a page with words that mostly make sense, it can be as low as a couple dollars for an article, and not much better at the $10 range. You can get someone talented, but just breaking onto a site-- looking to establish contacts at a site like elance in the $10-15 range. If you get lucky one may give you almost the same value as a professional writer.

I pay around $8 for a fully spinned article from oDesk. Great price for the SEO benefit one article can give you.

It seems hard to believe that people will write for you for as little as $3 or there abouts. I can't imagine selling my time for such a small amount.... I guess the reason is the writers are living outside the US, Canada, Australia etc, the western world and that would mean not having English as a second language. They can probably write English but it takes a lifetime to understand the innuendo of any language... to write with skill.

Imagine writing something yourself, what's your time worth and then base your decision on what to pay based on that.

This all depends on whether you want your articles written by a native English speaker, whether you want to hire a company that outsources the work, what type of quality you want in the writing, and what exactly you are looking for.

If the articles are original and with quality content it somehow runs between. $10-15 for a 500 words per article.
