No visits to my site suddenly?

Hi-

I've been blogging for about about a year now, with a break of a few months in between.

I have a site that was steadily rising in terms of the number of visits-avg about 200 a week. I've noticed that the last week and a half I have had NO visits. Not even one. Does anybody know how that could be? I checked to see if I am listed in Google, and I am. I am using google analytics, and it shows that it is working.

Any clues? After seeing the number of visitors go up for the last few weeks, this is a real bummer.

Thanks.

Your site might be down from the 1st page. This is normal.

Thanks for answering. My site is still on the first page, and I occupy several spots on the first page.

Most people make the mistake of relying only on Google for their traffic.

Doing so will condemn your site to endure the fluctuations in Google's algorithms.

Just because you see yourself on the first page of Google does not mean that anyone else does. Google is very much a "personalized search engine" that answers you based on your previous usage.

If you ever click on your link in the search results, they know you like your website best, so it will usually appear higher in the search results.

Call on friends elsewhere in the country to let you know that your site still appears on page one of their Google SERPs.

If everyone else is seeing you on page one, then it may be keywords that vary in their search frequency. An extreme example is seasonal keywords like Easter are only called once a year.

There are literally hundreds of variables that could answer your question, so there are no easy answers.

you can also disable personalised search in google (whether you're logged in or not). another alternative is to use another browser and just keep the cache clear. IE is actually good for this because you can set it to clear everything upon opening.

Thanks, never knew that about Google.

Most of my traffic in fact doesn't come from Google; I get most of it from article marketing, and people that come directly to my site.

Be interested to hear if you sort this out and what it is.

Are you definite the analytics are working? That's the only thing I can think of.

Do you have an awstats log (check in cpanel, if you have that). Have you tried viewing in Firefox? They have this feature which blocks certain sites if they have been reported a few times - and some websites are unecessarily reported (probably by competition). I think Google might have taken up the same feature.

Maybe if you could send a link over and one of your first page results.

I use scroogle.org to check where I rank in the serps. It avoids the problem of Google giving me a false sense of my ranking.

Bill Platt is absolutely right on - you cannot simply jump to Google and check your ranking. Use Scroogle or use some other website to see where you rank - otherwise you'll get the wrong impression.

For example, if I type in one particular three word keyphrase - I see one of my websites as a "starred result" - #2 in Google. But if I really check it using Pagerank checker SEO SERP web tools: Google Top 1000 SERPs checker: results many countries Google Pagerank SERPs index results web SEO tools - the site doesn't appear at all (although several pages appear, beginning at position 133)

    Quite a dramatic difference!

Thanks for the info-I wasn't too keen about calling friends to find out where my site ranked!

I try not to get neurotic about checking my site in Google, but I do check occasionally...

Thanks everyone for all of your help! Turns out it was Google Analytics (which I suspected). I redid my site a week and a half ago, and somehow the code slipped out. I actually checked the code as soon as I saw the problem, but GA said it was working.

I just put a new code in and bingo--visitors again.

Look up the "Google Dance" ...this is perfectly normal. It happens to all sites at some point or another (usually when they are new). Ramp up your PPC campaigns in the meantime if you need to sell and have good landing pages/conversion rates. Otherwise, wait it out.

Make sure you aren't using any black hat SEO crap or duplicate content. Also, don't post too many articles or generate links too quickly using drip systems. Good luck!

it sounds weired that you got 0 visits...
from that point of view it sounds like a technical issue. it's very easy to know if analytics works. Open your page from a smartphone and from a friends computer. You should get inmediatly 2 visits. if that dosn't happen then it's just a technical issue.

if analytics works fine. so you just have to do some SEO.
