What is the best long term profitable marketing method?

Ok I'm not looking for a full blown instruction manual or anything. I know about a number of marketing methods but was wondering which method has the best potential to make long term money?

With so many different ways to market a product or service online it's difficult for me to decide which I should settle on long term. Bum Marketing works if done right, CPA seems to work if you can get the people to actually take the action you want them to take, and PPC looks like it could work long tern if done correctly. And those are just 3 of the standards, all can be fiddled with and done in different ways, I'm sure. But as a basic long term marketing process, other than making my own product and getting others to sell it for me, what would be the best basic way to make money long term without having to switch back and forth between different methods?

Oh and other than a name and maybe a sentence or two to clarify it, I was just looking for the specific type of marketing method. I can do the research on my own to figure out how it's done and modify it if I need to, to fit my own needs.

Just wondering why you didn't include SEO. To me that's the only goal to aim for in the long term. Other strategies could of course be used to drive some traffic, but SEO is what i'm interested in.

Because SEO is used in all forms of marketing as a way to improve visibility or ranking of a site or article or post. It isn't a specific form of marketing, it is a tool used in all forms of marketing.

    From wikipedia...
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the visibility of a website or a web page in search engines via the "natural" or un-paid ""organic or "algorithmic") search results"

ALL OF THEM. No one marketing method is any better than any other. It just depends on which method you want to use, and how you use it.

To me having a site is the best and long term marketing method. However you may use other methods mentioned in off site SEO.

Having a website IS NOT a marketing method. Article marketing, PPC, Video marketing etc, SEO of that site is a marketing method.

CPA is not a long term profitable marketing method.

Providing people with top quality information is. Focus on that.

Find a competitor in your niche and improve on there product 10 fold.

Then look at how they get traffic.. there sales funnel.. and there upsells.

Don't choose a 'fad'.. choose a niche that will be here in 5 years.

    Fad = ****
    5 years = building confidence

    Authority.

Look at the recent articlebase thread or whip out your calculator and figure out how much this place makes a month.

If you're hustling, it's not long term.

There are real businesses and there are the guys with hot dog kiosks. Who do you want to be when you grow up?

Here is a strategy that works long term:
      1. Build an authority site: You main site becomes one of the "go-to" sites in your chosen niche. Think in terms of delivering the best content possible for free. Work with your head down and do everything in your power to get links and traffic to this site. Once it becomes an authority, no need for any more link building.
      1. Strengthen your authority site with satellite sites: Now you are going to build 5-10 satellite blogs all in the same niche, but focused on sub topics...pointing to your authority blog. Put each of these on separate Class C Ip's. They have to be quality sites, but not as big as your main site.
      1. Offer a killer free report for opt-in on all your sites: Put the same opt-in report on all of your sites. On your satellite sites you canbe a little more obnoxious with pop-ups, etc.
      1. Build your list to 40,000+ as quickly as possible: This is your insurance and it the point where you can feel good about having steady income. Promote affiliate products until your list hits 40,000.
      1. Build your own products: Once you have an authority blog and a mini-web of satellite sites...along with a list of 40,000...you will do very well in selling your own products. This is where you will easily blow into the 6 figure range.

This is exactly the path I took the past 3.5 years, by the way (no theories).

      Hope that helps

CPA works very well, especially if you combine it with listbuilding. What you essentially do is build a list in an evergreen niche that has a large number of CPA offers that you can promote, and then all you need to do is to send your list these relevant, targeted offers - you don't have to worry as much about list "burn out" as traditional affiliate marketing, because they're not buying anything in many cases when they complete an offer.

I started Internet marketing in 2001.

Since then I've made a very good living, with no need for either my wife or I to have a day job.

In the last 10 years I've tried just about everyhing. Some have worked spectacularly, some have been so-so and some, for me, have total busts.

But the very first thing I ever did online way back ten years ago was start to build my list and write a regular ezine. Over the years I've learned a lot about HOW to write to a lis to make it as responsive as possible, but that's another story.

What is important is that almost 1300 editions later I'm still writing my ezine and still making a darned good full-time income that supports my family very happily.

All the other IM methods have come and gone, but for me, developing a list, learning to write to your subscribers the right way, and running an ezine is my #1 constant. I don't see that changing anytime soon.

That's a good story of success, and an example for those apt to write. Did you gain some special education for your writing abilities in the very beginning of your path? or just developed it over the years?

At first I was awful. I had no idea HOW to write but I had bought into the idea that 'the money is in the list'!

At first there was only a very little money, but as time went on and I gained in experience, the money grew.

Then I learned the two most valuable lessons of my life:

#1 The harder you sell to your list the less you sell to your list.

#2 The amount of money you can make is in direct proportion to the number of your subscribers who look forward to opening and reading your emails.

          The rest is history.

I'll echo Rusty's thoughts on building a list and an authority site. But, in addition to that think about building your content as part of a long term asset building strategy. That content is what will set you apart, build back links, and establish you as a niche authority. You can also repurpose that content for lots of things, like products, articles, video marketing, autoresponder content and a whole lot more.

With rare exceptions, it is perhaps essential to build a list using any or even all marketing methods. Over the last 15 years, I have built lists in dozens of niches now totaling nealy 600,000 active subscribers. I am not aware of any one best long term marketing method, but whatever marketing method you do use, what has always given the best results in the long term for me at least has been to funnel the process into list building.
